I’d been planning to apply to boarding school since last school year as a sophomore. I am currently halfway through my junior year (currently ending the first semester) and am wondering what schools have rolling admissions or accept students throughout the school year?
As I said, I have been planning to apply for around a year now but had trouble with my parents agreeing. I know that I’m running out of time to attend as I only have my senior year remaining as a full school year so as much as possible I’d like to know what options I have.
The schools I wanted to apply to included Deerfield, St. George’s, Millbrook, and Culver. I’m a legacy at Culver so would that make a difference at all? I know Deerfield and other top schools have little chance of accepting at this point in the year.
Please help! Literally anything is much appreciated
It is highly unusual although occasionally a school will admit someone during the year. Personally, I have only seen this once and then during fall term. The situation was quite extraordinary.
With that said, your best bet is to contact the schools directly to see if they are receptive. I would start with Culver because of the ties but I would not get my hopes up. Even if you were applying in the regular cycle, seniors are rarely admitted.
If you need a new school, you might have more luck with online high schools than BS.
@cfj1197 - I feel like we’ve been here before, kiddo…
I understand that your parents were slow to get onboard, but why can’t you meet the deadlines if they’re saying yes now? You were talking about a late app last January and you hadn’t taken the SSAT. Did you take the SSAT yet? I’m so sorry but you’re not going to get a rolling admissions nod this close to the app deadline anywhere unless you’re transferring from another BS with special circumstances . Plus, rolling admissions isn’t exactly a BS admission strategy. So… how can we help? I’d like to try.
The only thing I can think of is to have your alum dad call Culver admissions - but know they’re still going need a completed app and your SSAT results. Maybe ( and this is a big maybe ) they’ll give you an extension due to the family connection.
Aside from that- The Association of Boarding Schools ( TABS ) has a list of schools with rolling admissions. Check it out but don’t be disappointed if you don’t see the schools on your list… You never know though - maybe there’s a another school with Rolling Admissions that may suit. Just throwing it out there…
I think it will be tough, especially for D.A. and St.G’s. It might be worth calling Kent’s Admission Office as I know they always build in some flexibility here and there. Maybe also call all the schools you mentioned above too… nothing ventured - nothing gained. You just never know. Best of luck!
