i took my sat 2 subject test for math, phy and chem this november.i went to the test without any preparation(no prep books, spark notes or any type of revision)i did well in math but in phy and chem i got 500.im writing my next sat on january 23.
i have been doing sat 2 barron for math and im getting 750-800 in the practice test.
but i havent started chem or phy,so firstly should i only take any one of them on january?
i have barron chem and PR for phy with me.Just give me an idea what would a good study plan(give the study plan considering my question above)
Seems like my situation, I have the same books as you too lol. I’ll probably follow the SAT Chem 6 week study schedule in the Barron’s book but probably a little more intensive( maybe because I need time to study for the other 2).
Are you senior?
I highly highly recommend focusing on chemistry, since they’re usually not very generous with the curve (~3 wrong for an 800 compared with ~6 for MathII and ~15 for Physics).
For math, don’t worry too much if you have Barron’s. Barron’s is known to make their practice exams way tougher than the actual SAT exam (specifically MathII, I kept getting in the low 700s on their practice tests and struggled with time but got the 800 on the actual exam using only half the time). Considering you did well the first time, I’d recommend leaving it alone for now, and maybe doing a practice test or two a week before the exam.
I’m going to assume that you took the respective AP or honors courses for physics and chemistry; it’ll be really hard to learn all that new material. In this case, try taking both of them. If you didn’t take AP/honors, I’d say only go for one of them, depending on what your planned major is.
Start with a practice test. Then focus heavily on your weaknesses. Brush up on all the other topics as well. I’d suggest doing 1-2 practice tests a week and studying an hour or so daily. Also, it would be better if you can find practice tests from sources other than the books you have, so you have an idea of different formats/questions/styles etc. This was my weakness when I took chem.
Good luck!
