I will be taking intermediate accounting and cost accounting this fall and would like to devote the remainder of my summer to preparing for them. I took financial accounting and managerial accounting at a community college and received A's in both but the curriculum probably wasn't as difficult as IU's. So with that being said, I have a few questions on both courses.

What subjects should I cover in my financial accounting book to best help me prepare for intermediate?
What is the workload like in intermediate?
Why do people call it a "weed out" class?

What is cost accounting?
Can I prepare for it? If so, how?

It depends upon what other courses you will take. DS2 mentioned that there were some overlap between the two courses. A311 students will be using Kieso’s book with access code. But, I am not sure if this is something new for A311. I am kind of interested in it since DS3 will take it too. He took A201 and is taking A202 at our IU local campus. He will be taking the mid-term and final through the access code in the class room. His professor pretty much let the on-line version such as “My Accounting Lab” or "ConnectPlus"decide students’ grades. I am not sure how Professor Cook would structure the course. Some of these access codes get very expensive (up to $300). DS2’s A312 will be using Access code also. Fortunately, his professor got them a cheaper version around $70. I wonder if that would be sufficient for someone who wants to take CPA exam. But, two things are for sure: teaching is getting easier and students are paying more.
