Preparing for next semester's math course

I am in winter intersession at my community college, and I want to make use of this break by preparing for Spring semester. When it comes to math is it better to review and master a math course that was taken last semester or start familiarizing myself with my new math course that is upcoming in the Spring?

Thanks in advance!

Personally for me, it depends on the course. For example, I took Statistics last spring and I spent a few days before class started looking at some notes the professor put up. I think that looking at new material before learning it during the semester helped me understand what I was going to get into. That way, when it came to class time, I knew what I was looking at. If your math class is something that you haven’t taken in high school, I suggest looking at the new material. If it builds on things you’ve learned before, you can take some time to review earlier concepts.

There are some users who have much better experience with this than I so I would take their advice too. If you think that this course is gonna be challenging for you, I recommend seeking out a peer tutor and/or using your professor’s office hours.

Hope this helps and best of luck! You got this

Thank you! I am taking Intermediate Algebra next, which is one level below college-level math. So this builds on Beginning Algebra which is the course I took last semester. I did well and understood the concepts, but since my major will eventually be Environmental Engineering, I want to make sure I grasp the fundamentals before I move on to the next course. I’m thinking about focusing on strengthening what I learned so that I can prepare for Intermediate Algebra more adequately, and maybe like you say, review relevant material a few days before class begins. Does that make sense?

Again, thank you for the advice and good wishes!

I think it might be good to use Khan Academy to review what you had learned. make sure to do problems too.

Thank you both for your advice!
