How hard is the geometry on the test?
I want to take the ACT this fall without prep and see how well I do. Then I'll see what I need to work on when I get my score back. I'll have another shot at the test in March when all the sophomores in my state are mandated to take the ACT. Is there any tips anyone has?

Why not keep your money and just take a practice test?

I think knowing trig/pre-calc helps a lot with the ACT math. My ACT math score before I took that class was six points lower than my score after.

The geometry isn’t hard, it’s basic geometry problems. However, it does test over a lot of minutia that you may have forgotten. I did pretty bad on the math section because I took the ACT my junior year - the year I took Calculus. It had been 4 years since I had taken geometry and 5 for pre-algebra! So I didn’t do bad because the math was too hard… I just forgot some details. A quick review of geometry and you should be good to go. Sparknotes has a pretty good review of geometry for the ACT, it worked well for me. I’d just go over that a couple weeks before the test and make sure you remember it all.

I second the idea of a practice test to save money. Here is last years free practice test http://media.act.org/documents/preparing.pdf Just take it under real conditions - timing, seating, correct order of passages, no distractions, actually fill in bubbles, etc and it should be a good indicator!

Take a practice test. Some schools want all scores.

I took the PLAN test which is pretty much the pre ACT. I think I will look into doing practice tests. Thank you!
I’m just afraid of having my first ACT being the one in March because if that score isn’t very good, will I have time to take it again before college applications are due? I’m going to be a junior, by the way and when I apply to college senior year I would really like to do early decision because I’m positive of where I want to go

Early apps are due at the beginning of November, I believe. So as long as you take your ACT before Nov (the latest I would take it is early October, to be honest. If you wait longer than that, the time crunch will stress you out) of your senior year, you should be fine.
