Preparing for the SAT

I plan on practicing the SAT material during the winter break, and I have a question. Should I work hardest on the section I am least good at (which would be CR) and try to get that score up or should I try to work on the easy sections (math and writing) and try to get those scores up even more? All this time I have been studying for CR, but maybe i should just try increasing the scores of the sections I'm already good at so i can get a better total score. due to your experience, what do you guys suggest i should study?

Work on your weaker areas. It'll pay off more.

try to distribute ur score proporionately! The college admission officers wouldn't be really glad to see a score like CR 450, Math 780 and Writing 740! (I mean just to give an example!) So, work harder on ur weaker areas besides reviewing ur strenghts in other sections. Best of LUck!

No, if your CR is generally okay/good, don't try to improve it. there isn't enough time, it usually takes 1-2 months before you see any improvement on that section. Math, on the other hand is easy to improve 100 pts and writing, a little bit harder, but still easier than CR. You either know CR or you don't, or you spend 4 months prepping for the SAT and then you will.

well cr is the one i do least well on and math and writing im pretty good. what should i study for then? shoould i just try to perfect my math and writing score or should i try to increase my cr score

Redwood, trust me, if ur Cr is not okay/moderate, do try to improve! If u r SAT Score looks one sided it might go against u! (Yeah, I agree they take a composite score, but still, the admission officers r going to frown at CR if it's dramatically bad, which I hope yours isn't!) So, what I suggest u to do is try ur best for all three sections, but make sure that ur NOT having a very low score in any of the three sections! Pretty much all colleges look for rounded students (funny to write it! Who doesn't know about it?)

well my CR and writing score are pretty much the same, even though i have a harder time doing CR. my math is a little above my writing score. so basically its a three-way tie (according to PSAT scores). i wanna improve my CR but why not improve the subject im best at so i get a better total score? i heard that math and writing are easiest to improve on, but i would give anything to get a 700+ CR score. im gonna be doing this over the winter break so i will read a lot more.

Okay, now it makes sense! Final decision is yours, and u r rather confusing me! Anyway, go w/ ur guts!

yes, theoretically, we want to be the best at all three subject areas, but economically and realistically, you just don't have enough time to do that. Sorry. Improve your math and writing because that is all you can really do in a month. Prepping for CR in one month will result in no overall improvement.

4 months is not enough time to make substantial improvements in all sections? I'm looking at a 400 point increase for me in 4 months.

Between CR and Writing, if you're running short on time, Writing's the easier of the two to study for + see dramatic increases. It's just a couple of rules, and even though idioms may screw you over from the 800, your score shouldn't end up being disappointing. A couple of pages of prep problems, and voila!

CR...it really depends on what you're having problems with. If you know all the vocabulary, and you just need to learn the right way at approaching questions, then you should be able to get that done in a month. However, if it's vocab issues, you're pretty much out of luck for 1 month prep.

4 months + a good prep book/class really can help though. I went from 2100 (or was it 2050? I can't remember the exact numbers) to 2360 in 2 1/2 months (a.k.a. how I spent my summer vacation).

Redwood---r u a senior?

definitely spend most time on your low section, but don't completely forget about the others either.
