anyone who wears ONLY one brand like ONLY hollister or ONLY american eagle, etc.

it's rather annoying

anyone who wears ONLY one brand like ONLY hollister or ONLY american eagle, etc.

it's rather annoying

Ugh, I'd say my lifestyle has always been pretty preppy, and I'm surrounded by preps. American Eagle etc is not preppy. True prep brands are J. Crew, RL, Lacoste, RL Rugby, J Mclaughlin, Vineyard Vines, Nantucket Reds etc. Very traditional brands! Preps where the same clothing that was stylish 20 or 30 years ago. If you're a guy, Sperry Topsiders are a must. Buy a Barbour Jacket and a Peacoat too.

i dont really like jcrew. its not classy enough. polo, lacoste, VV. thats wats up

I hate when people say that AE, AERO, or Abercrombie is preppy. I mean are you serious! This is just the kind of thing that gives preps a bad name. Take a page from Blair Waldorf or Chuck Bass on this one. “Preppy” is a lifestyle typical 50s or 60s well to do family. It’s not about lounging on a beach in SoCal or wearing ripped jeans and tee’s with illhumored beer jokes.

btw I love J. Crew. If Michelle Obama is down for it then so am I.

Brands I identify with as preppy:
Ralph Lauren
Lacoste
J. Crew
Burberry
Kate Spade
Lilly Pulitzer
Banana Republic
Barbour
Ann Taylor
amongst others…

Michelle Obama wears J Crew? lol

I’d have to agree with this list. How I hate A+F, not because of the clothes, but because of the people who wear the clothes and what it has come to stand for. I actually really like the look of A+F, but will never wear it because of both expense and people who already wear it.

I guess you hate me then, but I am not in the whole fashion trend stuff. So I really don’t know what’s preppy or what not (and I don’t really care).

Whenever I think of preppy, I think of:
Ralph Lauren
Tommy Hilfiger
Lacoste
But, I like their clothes though. It just annoys me when people are decked from head to toe in a single brand.

Its also annoying when people like to wear clothes that have the brand emblazened on their chests, like those Hollister/Abercrombie t shirts. I like their clothes, just not the ones where they advertise the brand.

LOL

how do u brahs feel about brooks brothers?

^I like Brooks brothers for the working man. It’s for a more mature prep in my opinion.

^^^ I hate the cuts of Brooks Brothers polos and stuff. Too big.

Actually most of the “classic” cuts are for middle aged men packing on some pounds. If you want to wear brands like Lacoste, RL, etc. and you are in decent shape, you really have to find the custom fits, the slim fits, or the XS. I’m an XXS Lacoste and I just wear XL children Ralph Lauren and then get the length trimmed (RL polos are obscenely long). 5 feet 10, 155 lbs, 13% bodyfat. The only other way to get slimmer fitting clothing is through expensive brands, or from somewhere like H&M, as they are Euro style, where the obesity rate is much lower than here in the US.

The only I somewhat like AE, Hollister, Abercrombie, etc. is that their cuts are guaranteed to fit, as they are meant for young guys that are in good shape.

“I’m an XXS Lacoste and I just wear XL children Ralph Lauren and then get the length trimmed (RL polos are obscenely long.”

SOOO true. That’s my major qualm with PRL polos. I love their colors though. Lacoste colors are really nice too. They have a more subdued palette, but I don’t really like the Lacoste material. It’s like thin…and cheap feeling. idk. Does anyone know what I’m talking about?

What kind of sweaters do you guys like?

hmmm…anyone else just throw on whatever they find on their bedroom floor? lol

Let’s get this straight.

Hollister, Abercrombie, American Eagle, and Aeropostale are not prep.

RL has good cashmere sweater. J Crew is nice as well. And J Crew isn’t classy? That’s new…

A lot of DBs wear Brooks Brothers.

What kind of sweaters do you guys like? "

Lacoste material is far superior to PRL IMO; it is softer and because it is lighter, is much cooler to wear, more breathable. PRL can get stuffy. Also they aren’t obscenely long either, though if you put them in the dryer they shrink a lot lengthwise. I have to get PRL ones cut shorter…otherwise it looks ridiculous.

As for sweaters, I just get cotton cashmere v necks from wherever it is cheapest, like Express or H&M or JCrew. I don’t want to dry clean.

there are some pretty preppy items at A&F but most of their stuff isn’t. anyways, i consider myself a casual preppy dresser :p

I have always considered myself as someone who is a preppy. I disagree with people who claim that Abercrombie, Hollister, Aero, or American Eagle are ‘preppy’ because their clothes seem to be the opposite of prep-style. I am a guy, and to look nice, I wear these brands:

Burberry
Lacoste
Polo
Tommy Hilfiger
Sperry Top-Sider

I find great deals on clothing, so I really don’t spend that much on my clothes (like 50% of retail, so i don’t over pay). Lacoste clothing has a nice material because I don’t get as hot in it, bit it does feel different. Polo is great for cold winter weather, and Burberry always looks nice I really like rugbys because of the nice crests, and because I look great in them lol I have never worn J Crew, although it does look nice. Vineyard Vines is classy, and Banana Republic is quite classy as well.

@chenmann33: You find Polo shirts to be really long? I’m like 5’ 10" (without shoes) and 170 pounds in great shape and don’t think that they’re long. I actually stay away from slim fits because they’re like skin tight on me lol. I wear a large in Polo, yet medium in Lacoste. Weird, huh?

i like J Crew, Ann Taylor (mostly loft bc im “petite” or whatever), banana republic, ny&c, and all that stuff. i have some stuff from forever 21 they look really nice but its so cheap (money and material wise), so thin and breaks easily. and anything at nordstrom, i absolutely love nordstrom! nordstromnordstromnorstrom=LOVE. hmmm i guess some people could consider that “preppy” i do have a few things from vs pink and pacsun though.

Lacoste runs fairly big I find. I do find PRL shirts really long, and they are because they are meant to be tucked in. They have that weird tail thing too; all of those factors make them pretty damn long.
