So apparently a few of my friends think I'm "preppy." I wear J Crew, Ralph Lauren, and the bookbag I bring to school is from North Face. I listen to Jack Johnson and Bob Dylan. Does that make me a "prep?" I'm not rich, though. I guess I have some money but I don't think I'm "rich."

Well, the musical taste doesn't, but everyone knows that someone who doesn't wear ripped, tattered jeans is clearly a preppy.

Your clothing style is definitely preppy. And a clear sign is- when other people think you're rich, it's 'cause you are. You're used to it so it doesn't seem so to you, but you are.

I'm a little confused. Is American Eagle, Aeropostale, and Abercrombie consider prep or pseudo-prep. I don't care either way I like the clothes :)

J. Crew = preppy. However, that's not a bad thing - and you don't have to be rich to be preppy.

I didn't say you have to be rich to be preppy. I said he is rich. Which isn't a bad thing.

GreenDay - I actually posted that before I saw your post; I was replying to the OP.

GDG, from what I've read, American Eagle, Aeropostale, Abercrombie and Fitch, and Hollister are all copy cat preppy stores. Although I think a few A and F stuff could be considered preppy.

What is considered, "Preppy music?"

Preppy music. Honestly I've never heard of such a thing. Preps listen to all kinds of music. Rap, rock, country, etc.
I dress prep but I listen to emo/indie.

That's cool.

I can't see you as a prep for some reason.

I'd think of you as a goth/punk/someone in a cult.

Sorry if that offends you.

It does.

I would never dress goth thats gross.

Maybe it's 'cause I love emo music though.

Still, American Eagle polos>goth tehehehe

P.S. I am GreenDayFan for those of you out of the loop

I'm really confused, it says that NJyoungin was the last to post on this threaddd.

I don't know why thay keeps happening in threads.

rule of thumb: if you can afford abercrombie/j crew etc on a regular basis, you've probably got $ to spare.

I dont. I save up money like crazy and then spend it all there cuz im not very good with money. I'm not rich at all I live in a small apartment and I go to a private school but with lots of financial aid. My lovely dad likes to remind me that he's not gonna retire and he's gonna work 'til he dies 'cause he's paying for my school and I want to be a journalist and they dont make enough money.

Yes, you are a preppy person.

J. Crew, definitely (A&F not really; but if it were the original, most definitely; also Orvis could qualify) Actually, a true prep would avoid Ralph Lauren who is considered a knock-off of the original prep clothier, BroBro (aka Brooks Brothers). For those in the NYC area, a couple of other "prep" clothiers are Paul Stuart and J. Press (exceptional). And for shoes, Allen Freeman and Barry Bootery (in addition to Bass Weejuns and Sperry TopSiders) --

For retro preppy, locate a copy of the Official Preppy Handbook from the late 1970s. Funny, but a lot of it still holds true!

I have a couple things from Brooks Brothers.

o_o; Yesh Jon, you are a preppy xD boy. ;] Don't worry, people will still love you anyway!

What's wrong with being a prep? lol.

Also, what kind of music do you consider preppy? I've been told my musical taste was. lol

o_o Nothing is wrong being a prep. >]
