er no.
10 char.

Hahaha I actually own a pair of those, from Vineyard Vines [Vineyard Vines - Trout Run Embriodered Corduroy Club Pants](http://www.vineyardvines.com/product__111348_____13067_13050)

Love them to death, and get compliments whenever I wear them.

Hmm my post disappeared, but solid!

Those are the ones; they kind of bother me… haha

Those pants are certainly…something else, as are those shoes to a lesser extent. I don’t mean any disrespect, but I can’t imagine those looking good on anyone save a very attractive and well-proportioned male model.

Full on preppy, to me, is just a turn-off. I own some pieces from RL and Tommy Hilfiger (if that even qualifies) that I love to death, but the sight of a male in what you described in your opening post would just make me cringe and run the other direction. I guess it’s just a regional thing, but I’ve never seen anyone around here rock Sperrys, although I’ve seen the occasional guy in moccasins. Preppy is nice, only to a limited extent. Seeing a guy in a polo for every day of the week is just monotonous and straight up boring.

I love seeing guys in plaid/flannel shirts. Not sure why, but it’s a huge turn-on, as is a track sweatshirt. Solid-colored sweater + nice jeans + plaid shirt underneath + mocs/Columbias = hot. Any guy who can pull off a cardi, band shirt, and vans is pretty cute too. Converse are always nice. Then again, guys who wear college hoodies are cute too. I borrowing hoodies from guys. Any guy who can pull off all of these looks is the guy for me. To sum up my huge post: variety is so much better than adhering to one style.

So many people here wear those pants… it really doesn’t look as bad as you’d think. That with a polo or a nice sweater and some sperry’s actually looks quite nice.

Clean-cut can certainly come from a variety of styles. Personally, I like the preppy look, but it’s not all that I like [and seeing someone not dressed preppily is such a breath of fresh air here].

On the subject of girls’ clothes [which seem to have been neglected here], what do you guys think of preppy girls.
NOT a&f too-short-shorts wearing girls!
How do you guys feel about REAL preppy girls?

slightly off topic: i LOVE my turquoise Hunter wellies! does anyone else have a pair?

I agree with Izzy Busy Bee. Any girl that has to wear skin-tight ANF shirts and 2" long jean shorts to show off their stuff isn’t the kind of girl I want, as nice as she is to look at. My kind of girl will wear conservative clothing because she knows she’s got the stuff but is classy about it and doesn’t want attention like that.

Same goes for guys…only insecure males wear super-tight Hollister tees to show off their muscles whereas the guys who have muscle wear polos and button-downs because they’re confident in their appearance and doesn’t need to stand out like a sore thumb in public to make a point.

ugh… this all sounds like way too much work. I personally find clothing styles unimportant. As long as you don’t look dirty/really unkept (on basis of hygiene) then I could really care less, but this is coming from someone who wears sweats, T’s, flip-flops, and hoodies 90% of the time. Skankiness and personal hygiene are just about the only things I care about as far as appearances are concerned.

I’ve had a dress code through high school. Please don’t tell me I’ll encounter people who think like this in college.

haha the sperry talk is making me laugh. in my catholic school, literally everyone wears sperries. I think they look ok with socks as long as you wear crew socks or knee socks(with a school uniform, of course). for guys, it sucks cuz you HAVE to wear black socks to school. black socks and sperries? lol
ive owned 3 pairs- 1 tweed, 1 brown leather, and 1 canvas pair

am i the only one who REALLY doesn’t like the sneaker-type sperries?

and izzy- I have a yellow pair :)

I’m one of only a few people who wear Sperrys at my school. If everyone has them in college I might need to find a new shoe, as much as I love my current pair.

Personally I dress in more of the trendy version of preppy. I disagree with the OP on: straight-leg, raw denim jeans (slim straight, or even slimmer if you are skinny enough to pull it off, looks much better. and raw denim only? are you telling me you have 3+ pairs of raw denim jeans? i shell out a lot for clothes but who can afford that?), no polos in winter (I don’t have enough tops to do this haha), only repp ties (might I ask why?), your choice of brands (have fun displaying the logos), and having all shorts above the knee (they don’t all need to go below the knee if they look good otherwise). Oh, and the overall rules-abiding air of your post struck me as unnecessary conformity.

Agreed with Dunbar. I am one of the few people at our school who wears Sperrys. Hopefully they won’t get too ‘trendy’ I think Longchamp bags for girls are preppy in essence and quote durable.

typo: quite not quote

Dang auto correct on my iPod lololol

I just wear a white tee and blue jeans.

I don’t like buying into trends/conforming to a certain set of rules about fashion. (And don’t you dare tell me Sperry’s aren’t a trend.)

I just dress in what looks good. I prefer to do my own thing than wear what everyone else is wearing (converse, longchamp, sperry’s, etc.).

“Hopefully they won’t get too ‘trendy’”
Haha oops, it’s already happened.

I don’t let whether something is trendy or not get in my way-- I wear stuff that’s trendy because I like it, and stuff that’s not trendy for the same reason. I think that by not wearing things because they’re trendy, you’re still letting trends determine exactly what you wear. it’s the same way with music, etc.

I like the preppy look on guys as long as they don’t look ******y.

I don’t really know how to categorize my style. I just know I shop at H&M and Urban Outfitters too much.

Dude, i was rocking blue chinos, sperries , and a gray polo today. Preppy isn’t the best, but it’s pretty damn good.

The best is gym shorts with nike sandals. (so comfortable)

@xogenxo

I meant for my school, haha for our school, 2" Jean shorts and super low cut tops with whatever is ‘trendy’ at the moment is considered fashionable. I will continue to wear Sperrys even if they do get popular here because they are so comfortable and I have been wearing them for a few years, but I’d rather not see everyone wear Sperrys just for the sake of wearing Sperrys.

It’s entirely possible for a girl to look preppy AND stylish; for that. I applaud the truly preppy girls. Not everyone can pull it off, though. To look classic, you have to shop at classic stores – Brooks Brothers, Vineyard Vines, Ralph Lauren. The girls I know that try to be preppy do it with cheap versions of classic clothes and come across as old fogies. The cheap, fake pearls are also painful to look at.

@Daxlo5: That’s wassap! Haha I sported a white polo, carolina blue chino shorts, and white Sperrys. Clean cut is where it’s at! But yeah I can see the tee/slides being comfortable but I’ve always found myself to be most comfortable in preppy attire, I have absolutely no idea why. I think it’s because I find myself dozing off in sweats and tees because that’s what I sleep in no matter what hour of the day.

Sperrys are NOT trendy; it’s the exact opposite. Ronald Reagan actually subsidized Sperry Top-Sider to start as a company and has always been a staple in true prep’s wardrobes no matter what era. Whether or not they “come back” or not does not faze me, I’ll always wear Sperrys cuz they’re damn comfortable.

@smorgasbord: If every girl dressed like you, I’d be a very happy man.
