I signed my son up for Prepscholar earlier this week. I just want to say that I’m pleased with the program so far. My son was overwhelmed when he tried to study on his own. My only regret is that I did not purchase it for him sooner. His test is on March 14th. I know it will help him score better but if he had more time it would be more beneficial. Guess it is a good thing that access is for a year. Then he can use it for future tests if needed. Anyone else out there use Prep Scholar? Did your kids notice a jump in score after Prepscholar?
I am planning on registering over the summer for the course, so I am happy to hear good feedback about it. Does it teach you the content or just review it?
Each lesson includes material to review. You take a quiz once you review the material. Once you complete the quiz, you can revisit the problems that you missed. There is an explanation regarding why you missed that particular problem. They also provide sections for strategies (when to skip, how to skip, etc). The main thing that I like is that you take a diagnostic test at the beginning. Then the system formulates lessons specifically for each person based on their weaknesses. They have graphs so you can monitor your progress. Once the student masters a level the system increases the difficulty of the program. At some point the system will prompt my son to take a practice test. My son has not reached that point yet. Also, each week you set a study time for each day. You can even set it up so that you get a text as a reminder to study. Anyway, I purchased the $399 online system for my son. They have other packages that also include a tutor. They offer a 5 day free trial. They also guarantee that your score will increase (from prior SAT or PSAT score) 240 points or they will refund your money. I hope we do not need the refund!
Hi @allboyz
I’m a cofounder of PrepScholar (you’ve probably already gotten the introductory email and progress report emails from me).
I’m really happy to hear your feedback and that you like the program so far.
If you search for ‘prepscholar’ on collegeconfidential, you’ll see what other people have to say about score improvements.
As you said, you have access for a full year, so if you don’t have quite enough time to prep for March, you can definitely continue using the program for future tests.
The most important thing you can do on your side is continue supporting your son to put in time. We find that students who can make a steady commitment to studying (as opposed to cramming) and follow their weekly inputted schedules tend to make better score improvements. If you help him put in the time, the program takes care of what to study and the rest!
Can you use prepscholar on an iPad?
