Prerequisites for Trinity School

I will be a freshman at the Trinity School of Arts and Sciences next year. I know that they only allow 2 AP credits. I was wondering what classes must all freshman at Duke take so that I know which APs I should study for and opt out of next year.

I already got:
AP English & Lang (4)
AP Euro (4)
AP Psych (5)
AP Calc AB (5)

And this year I'm takig
AP English & Lit
AP Stats
AP Calc
AP Chem
AP Env
AP Econ
AP Gov

I know that AP English and Lang is a prerequisite but I'm wondering what my 2nd could be which will tell me whether I need to study for the AP tests this year and which ones.

Thank you in advance.

There are three main ways AP credit can be used.
1) To test out of pre-requisites. With a 4 or 5 on the AP Chem exam, you test out of the chem requirement for the biology major, for example. This also applies to the foreign language requirement.

2) For placement. With a 5 on AP Chem, you can take organic chem, with a 5 on AP Calc BC you can take multivariable calc, etc.

3) For credit. Here's where it gets confusing. Duke only counts 2 AP credits toward your degree (since they require 34 credits, that doesn't do much), but with additional AP credit, it is possible to graduate a semester/year early or graduate with a BA/MA.

There are no specific courses freshmen have to take except Writing 20, and you can't test out of that. English, Env. Science, Stats, Psychology, and Euro History won't count for much except elective credit (i.e. useless unless you want to graduate early). Calculus, Government, Chem, and Econ will allow you to test out of a major requirement or to place into a higher level course.

I strongly urge you to take a foreign language AP exam or SAT II. The foreign language requirement is a pain.

I want to do Pre-med by the way.

So if I dont want to graduate early, the only AP I should study for is Chem.

BTW thank u for ure post War.

And Calc. That allows you to take Math 103 immediately rather than going through 32.

about Calc I would need 4/5 correct? I remember reading that u also needed a 680 on Math II SAT 2 is that correct cause i had only gotten a 670 when i took it.

Hi,

This is redundant information for you, dmitri, but for others:

http://www.math.duke.edu/first_year/placement.html

Is there any site to find out the prerequisites to specific majors?

1.) Generally if you just go to duke.com and seach "biology major requirements" it will tell you.

2.) http://registrar.duke.edu/bulletins/Undergraduate/ is a very complete - albeit awkward - way to get all the information.
