Hi :) Im currently a freshman attending a community college & I've been planning out all of my courses to transfer to UC Irvine as nursing science major. For my prereqs, I will complete all but 1 course by the end of spring quarter before transfer because it doesn't fit into my schedule. Assist said I need 1 quarter of Microbiology but I won't be able to take that course before transferring. I will complete all of the other prereqs & general ed courses so will not having that Microbiology course completed hurt my chances in any way? I really don't want to spend another year at community college just to fulfill that one prerequisite.

Bump bump bump

I doubt not finishing one major class will get you rejected. Especially since you completed prereqs and general ed, most likely you’ll get in and have to take that class at UCI.
I also don’t think UCI is as strict about major reqs as the other UC’s, but we’ll see from the other posters if that’s right or not.

I talked to an admissions rep…I originally applied for Bus Admin at UCI but did not finish my calc courses. At least for Merage…they’ll give you the boot if you don’t finish ALL pre-reqs…so I actually switched to International studies …I’ll switch to econ and minor in management after I finish calc hopefully by this fall. Nursing is pretty competitive but I would call and ask.

Well. You have to remember that Bus Admin is very hard to get into at UCI. To OP, I think you will be fine missing a pre-req, assuming you’re doing good in all your other classes.
I’m applying as an engineer and I’m missing a couple classes.

If the major requires that you take ALL pre-reqs before you transfer, then you MUST take ALL of the pre-reqs. There are no exceptions, unless they are specifically listed.

@HopingToXfer We should keep in touch. Seems we’re in the same boat as far as missing pre-req’s and going into the E field. I’m going to need someone to study with!

@PurrOnYou that’s if I choose UCI :P

@HopingToXfer I applied to UCR as well ;)

Nursing at UCI is competitive. It puts you at a disadvantage against those who finished all their pre-reqs. Think about it this way; the less you have completed, the further you’re moved back in the line.
