My last say is this. It is funny how everyone else can state an IMHO, but me. What started this whole brouhaha was that I said that I didn't think VN was worth $50k+. Perhaps I incensed dad saying it wasn't Notre Dame. Well, this time I will say IMHO, which I guess will qualify MY OPINION, that I STILL don't see what makes VN charge over $50K a year. I feel this way about a LOT of the smaller schools that do. Is it an Ivy? No. Is it Notre Dame, the king of all Catholics? No. Is it reknown for their academics? No one I know had even HEARD of it when I applied. What VN is, is a nice little Catholic University. Will you get a cutting edge technologically advanced education? No. You will get a nice well rounded education at a beautiful location at a nice little university. Can everyone afford it? No. For those who can, fine. I cannot. I would not be willing to pay a large sum of money to go there. IMHO. I am sure all the finalists are fine people. I am a nice person who didn't advance. If all the people and parents who go there are willing to jump down my throat over this, it is not the school for me. I am not hating on it, I just don't see the $50K allure that you obviously do. And chidad, you should be ashamed of yourself. Not everyone agrees with you. Let people have their opinions as we leave you to yours. Chillax.

amen to that.

You are clearly entitled to your opinion...it just seems to have changed now that they didn't give you your scholarship. That's all. I have no interest in Villanova, and my daughter is not going to attend, scholarship or not, for other reasons. But if it is that bad of a school...why would you ever consider it even if it was free? I am pretty sure that if you had been invited for interviews, you would not be posting about how expensive it has become. And please don't pretend that no one has ever heard of it. it is internationally known for its basketball program if nothing else. So your comment is more than disingenuous. but look, no sense in this debate...you can bad mouth it for the rest of your life. And...all the other schools that have not seen the wisdom in giving you your scholarships. You will attend some school and are intelligent enough to do well wherever you go. My wish for you is that you are also smart enough to understand what you don't know as well as what you know. Best wishes.

ChiDad, don't you have a son who's a frosh at Villanova?

bandnerd, if u cant afford villanova then why dont u apply for financial aid? u would get a grant for your full need because of your outstanding academics?

as to your other allegations: is villanova as well known as notre dame? no, but its just as good of a school in many programs, especially business. they were ranked #1 most wired campus so i dont understand u saying theyre not technologically advanced. the trick is: do u want to receive a good education that will ultimately help you or do u want to attend a college with a well known name and not get the education or college experience you want?

bandnerd91321: I have tried to be polite and supportive, but I'm giving up.

You have a real attitude problem. As a former college admissions officer who has read a lot of essays, I can tell you that if your written submissions revealed even 50% of the vanity and immaturity you display on this board, you cut yourself off at the knees.

The good news is that most young people, sooner or later, grow up successfully. Good luck to you wherever you go to college.

tennisboy- villanova's need-based aid is not the greatest. they don't cover 100%, and what they do cover is rarely a grant, probably mostly loans actually. Another pet peeve with this school is that they don't care if you have a sibling in college that your parents are paying for. It has no effect on your financial aid package which I think is completely wrong of the school.

Exactly, like smoltz said, they alter the EFC you receive on your FAFSA in three areas: businesses, net losses (?), and siblings in graduate school (they do however consider undergrad students). It was why I was so disappointed I did not receive the scholarship.

i agree that is completely wrong, but what im saying is that they do have grants and with bandnerds impressive resume its likely he could get one. also if he plans on doing marching band(if hes a band nerd) then maybe he could talk to the person in charge of that and they could get him grants. i know for tennis they dont have scholarships but they have grants for those with financial need

Bandnerd, you really need to stop telling lies about Villanova. Don't tell me that no one in your area has heard of Villanova. Like ChiDad said, they would at least be known for the basketball program. And Why won't you get a cutting edge technologically advanced education? And I'm not so sure the school is as "little" as you say. There are 7,000 undergrads, not 2,000 like at some schools.

Well "IMHO" you are one of the most ignorant people here. I'm glad they didn't give you the scholarship because just like people here, the admissions officers saw right through you. Good look in your future endeavors at bigger and better schools.

i agree with villanovagirl. im pretty sure that they wouldnt pick a person for pres. scholarship who didnt really want to go to the school and if u expressed that you didnt really care in the app then i understand why.

do you honestly think he would say he doesn't care in his app!? stupid comment.

not say he doesnt care....im just saying not be as enthusiastic as he can. villanova would want someone who really, really wants to go there so someone who might want to if he gets a scholarship. admissions committees are really good about making those sort of judgements

i love how you think you know everything about college admissions, yet you're not in college...and you're not even a high school senior. wait a year or 2 before you make brash judgments.

wow....from what ive heard from many people college admissions officer are good at judging people for who they truly are....if u dont express an intense desire to go to a college i doubt they're going to want to offer you a full scholarship. dont be sore just because you didnt get an interview.
