Presidential Leadership Scholarship & Bernard Ramsey Honors Scholarship

Any news about Presidential Leadership Scholarship & Bernard Ramsey Honors Scholarship.

LOL-- Ga Tech logo avatar and posting about the UGA scholarships. Made me smile.

I just got my finalist notification!!

D received her finalist notification for Foundation Fellowship this afternoon. Very excited!

I got my notification too!!! I’m so excited!

I just got my notification a few hours ago as well. I’m very excited!

My son got his rejection notice Friday. It wasn’t all bad. He was given the Classic Scholarship on acceptance, and his rejection was tempered with the award of the Henry King Stanford Scholarship. Although only $3,000 per year, the real value is the presidential waive of out-of-state fees, which is worth $18,210 per year. This scholarship requires continued enrollment in the honors college and a 3.5 average, so a semester of frat parties could be fatal.

We haven’t even visited yet and had dropped Georgia from our list of four (Tulane, GA, Ala., Ole Miss). The extra 10 or 11 thousand a year is enough to make us take a hard look. My son will be majoring in accounting, and UGA is supposed to be very good.

Sorry about the disappointment @EarlVanDorn! Your son has excellent choices. UGA is great for accounting, which will be one of my D’s majors.

EarlVanDorn, Congrats on Henry King scholarship for your son. I am curious about your son’s stats. My D got rejected from Ramsey scholarship but only got Classic Scholarship. She has a 36 ACT, national merit finalist, 4.58/5.0 weighted GPA, top 5 in class, class officer 4 years including senior class president, varsity basketball 4 years, school ambassador program, 7 AP classes and all others classes are honors. Not sure why she did not get the Presidential with full OOS waiver.

@bullfrog21 I think it’s really hard to know how they make these decisions. My son has a 35 ACT, 3.9/4.3 g.p.a. Fair extracurriculars but no sports or leadership. Rank is 7 out of 240. Seven AP classes plus two more this year (he did make a “2” on one of those). He will graduate with 39 dual enrollment hours and is taking Intermediate Accounting this year, which is arguably the toughest business class Ole Miss offers. His accounting teacher wrote him a rec, which might have helped. Also, Georgia says they don’t take geography into account for admissions, but they might for scholarships. I’m not sure they get very many applicants from Mississippi even though it’s somewhat close geographically.

Changing the subject slightly, but not getting the Ramsey was a disappointment, but the King scholarship makes UGA a viable choice, so after all is said and done we’re not “disappointed” at all. We’ve just got to spend some time visiting around and letting my son decide what he wants to do.

Are all of the scholarships awarded now? No further chance of OOS waiver?

I know a lot of scholarships have been awarded, but has anyone received the Presidential Leadership scholarship?

We are disappointed that our son (35 ACT &4.72/4.8) is not a finalist. He has solid extracurricular activities and has a weekend job. While we do appreciate the offer of a Classic Scholarship, he has multiple other full tuition offers from private and other state schools. It is a shame because he really liked Georgia. A simple full out of state waiver would have put it in the running.

@knowledgeless Ditto!!! Could not agree more and we are in the same boat. The stats of those who are finalists must be absolutely FLAWLESS or perhaps they are looking at other hooks and things also. We were surprised not to move on. A full out of state waiver would have put it in the running for us too.

I don’t think anyone should ever be surprised to not move on in a lottery scholarship competition. The odds are against everyone. It’s harder to win these scholarships than getting into Stanford. Treat them all as long shots and avoid disappointment.

@itsgettingreal17 I am happy for you and your D for moving to the next round. Nevertheless, we were surprised not to have.

It’s hard not to be disappointed- but the program is so amazing that it is really competitive. Most of the kids applying to the Fellowship will have tippy top stats and will be applying ( and be accepted into top schools). Only 50- 60 kids are invited to interview weekend.

It is my understanding that scholarships are still being awarded through the application process. The CURO scholarship deadline is Feb 1.

My son also received a rejection for the Foundation/Ramsey scholarships. He has a 35 ACT, 1560 SAT, 4.0 UW/GPA, 8 AP’s, 3 year varsity athlete and many EC’s. I know those scholarships are extremely competitive, but like others who have posted here, I am disappointed that he only received a 1/2 OOS tuition waiver. If that is all he is offered then UGA is not an option for us. What’s even more frustrating is that I am a UGA graduate and we only moved OOS a couple of years ago. If only we still lived in Georgia, then we could easily afford UGA with in-state tuition and other in-state funds that are available.

Has anyone been awarded the Presidential Leadership Scholarship?

^^^
Ouch - losing those Hope $ 's hurts and IS tuition The Hope/ Zell Miller makes it really enticing for GA kids to stay instate.

With the amazing stats your son has, I am sure he will have some great choices. I recall the heartache and disappointment of college acceptances. I tried to keep reminding myself during the process that when one door closes another opens. But, boy it stings when your kid faces rejection.

@itsgettingreal17 so did your daughter accept the FF interview weekend. My son also got invited and so hopefully I
will meet you there. What area are you from, and what other schools is she considering?
