Presidential Scholars Program and SAT Scores

Thank you  Damn, that writing section must really trip a lot of people up.

^ Yeah. I believe the Writing section has the fewest 800’s.

Ok, I’ll try to forget about it for now. May I’ll be pleasantly surprised come January.

Got a 790 on writing

And I would have had an 800 too, if it weren’t for you meddling Educational Testing Services and your STUPID essay!

The essay just sucks…lol

@Silverturtle

That makes me feel so special:) (I cherish the only 800 I have)

Actually, I believe it’s by citizenship, as in you’ll qualify if you’re an American citizen living long-term abroad (and who might have taken the test abroad); similarly, you won’t qualify if you’re living in the U.S., took the SAT/ACT in the U.S., but do not hold U.S. citizenship (ex: permanent residents).

It varies by state. I don’t know how accurate this is, but I googled the thread from last year and someone claimed to have gotten in with a 1510 from Nevada. Someone else was said to have gotten Presidential Scholars with a 1490, didn’t mention the state. ACT score of 142 made it in Missouri. So don’t immediately give up if your SAT/ACT score is less than 1600 :).

I would’ve thought that was CR.

I thought the exact same thing in May, when I got a 790 with a 49/49 MC (because of a 9 essay.)
Then in June I got an 800.
If you can get a 790 once, you can get an 800 without further studying. It’s mostly a matter of luck there.

CR is a bit more common, and Math is the most common.

^Ah I see. Math is definitely the easiest section. Perhaps I just find CR to be insanely difficult for subjective reasons (it being the only section I didn’t reach an 800 on :frowning: )
Personal vendetta type thing.

P.S.: Your guide was excellent. The writing part in particular should help literally anyone get an 800 :D

^ Thanks. Did you get the latest version? When did I send it to you?

I got it yesterday. I read through most of it, but skipped a bit of the CR.

Edit: I have to add that I was impressed, in particular, by some of the type of errors you included (which I haven’t seen in any practice books) such as the correct pronoun use for gerunds and the ambiguous antecedents and such. I’m sure your guide’s going to be much appreciated by CCers :)

And when is this magic guide being released?

Honestly, I think the guide’s writing section includes everything that’s on the SAT and more. With the guide, not only can you get a 800 on writing, you can impress your English teacher and **** off your friends by correcting every grammar error you find in what they say.

^I’m already guilty of the latter. My friends probably hate me for that :D

So am I. That’s why I come onto this site, so that I don’t go crazy seeing grammar/spelling errors on Facebook all the time.

Two things:

The score that they base this off of is NOT a super-score, correct?

When is the latest you can take the SAT to be considered for the award?

Correct.

October I believe.

Not sure yet. I am waiting to hear back from several reviewers that I sought out.
