Presidential Scholars Program and SAT Scores

Well that’s what she told me - you have to remember its SC ;)

I don’t live in the USA. I live in Lebanon.

What kind of advantages does the program give?

A 1580 cutoff is extremely rare and I’d guess it would be for states such as Hawaii, Alaska, the Dakotas etc. I seriously doubt SC has weaker scores than those states.

Does anybody know how they calculate the “ACT sum of scores” for this competition? Is it merely the sum of the 4 major components or does it include the writing?

Add up your superscores except writing.

That would be handy, since S2 has a 143 (144 max), but “only” a 1560 SAT.

I’m actually curious as to how many students with high-scoring ACTs are taken. I assume that it’s a much smaller number than students with high SAT scores.

^ I’m not sure how they convert the scores. In my opinion, 144 should be 1600, 143 should be 1590, 142 should be 1580, and 141 should be 1570.

In that case, Texas probably takes all of the 144 composite ACT scorers and 1600 SAT CR+M scorers.

The most statistically rigorous approach would be align the underlying probability density functions (the bell curves) from the two tests and make the condordance accordingly. It would certainly be more precise on a 144 pt scale than on a 36 pt scale.

ACT says that 36 corresponds to 2390.

UT84321: Yes, but I doubt that the program employs a statistically sound method.

Where can I find how many 1600ers there are each year?

^ Overall you mean?

Yeah. The only score breakdown information I could find gave score ranges.

There are somewhere around 300 2400’s, so figure maybe 2x as many 1600s.

As I indicated earlier, there are 1,200 a year.

Could you give me a link to where you found that information?

Curse you careless errors!! 770 on math…goodbye pres scholarship lol

My numerical soup told me. I can PM you the picture, though.

Nah, I’m just kidding. Here you go: http://professionals.collegeboard.com/profdownload/sat_percentile_ranks_composite_cr_m.pdf
