Does anybody know what you have to do to maintain a presidential scholarship? I've looked on the website, but can't find anything. Is there a requirement that you maintain a certain GPA? Do you have to stay in the scholar's program in order to keep the scholarship?

Nope, once you get the scholarship you have it, as long as you remain a “student in good standing”. which I believe means maintaining a 2.0 GPA. You must maintain a 3.3 to stay in the scholars program, but even if you are no longer a scholar you can keep the scholarship.

As they explained it to the class of 2012 when I visited with my daughter, if they want you enough to offer you money, they mean it. They are committed to you, period.

Tx Carmen617. Much appreciated. Has your daughter found the scholars program difficult? Was it hard to carry an extra course? Was the sophomore project requirement hard to arrange or complete? Is the program worth the extra work?

My daughter finds the coursework at Union challenging but not too difficult, if you understand the difference. She seems extremely happy there, and loves being a scholar. She is a sophomore this year, so is in the last trimester of working on her project. She talks about it but not in a way that made it seem like a burdan - it’s just another of her classes. She really likes being able to take an extra course if she wishes - because of the trimester system there is actually plenty of time to fit in an extra course and she has used that for some intellectual exploration.

Midway through her freshman year she became a gatekeeper -a tour guide - for the Admissions department. If you would like to get in touch with her and speak with her directly about her experiences at Union and as a Scholar you can PM me and I will be happy to give you her contact information.
