Anyone else get their invitations to apply?

Yeah just got it in the mail a few hours ago

The Parents Forum has a thread on this already started that includes a link to the list of students.

Congratulations to all who recieved this.

I haven't yet, argh.

I just hope there isn't another kid who lives in the same city with the same first + last name and middle initial who got it instead of me :P

me too . (i got it too)

woo, i got it too.

does anyone know who much money this actually is if we win?

$0. It's more in the line of prestige. You get a free week in Washington and you get to meet President Obama.

how do they select candidates for this?

its based on act or sat scores. its like the national merit for the real sats and acts.

I have a question-- do you have to check the box on the ACT/SAT that's like "Yes, please let my information go to colleges..." in order to be qualified for these things?

I don't think it has anything to do with it. They want the top 20 male and female scores from each state. They must get the list straight out of CB.

Yeah you have to check the box for your info to be released. If you didn't do that but still think your score is competitive enough for the scholarship, call in to the office and state your case. generally you should have above a 138 act sum of scores or sat equivalent.

I called the ACT people today and they said that it really has nothing to do with it and its separate. :)

Another Q-- say I took it as a junior this year and did exceptionally well. Do I have to retake it as a senior in order to be qualified?

No. I took all my stuff during 2nd semester junior year, and that's what they used for me to get nominated.
