I just received the Dean’s Scholarship in the mail (in-state)
Congrats @laughandlearn23 and @saintsmd! That is wonderful. I have not seen today’s mail yet!
Congrats! Email or snail mail?
Do you mind posting your stats and the amounts of your scholarships? Congratulations!
By regular mailbox. $5,000 a year, 1430/1600 SAT and 97.5 UW GPA.
Thank you @fretfulmother , very happy and good luck to you
Would it kill them to send an email? ? Now the suspense will build as we anxiously wait for the mail each day…maybe it is being done piecemeal? I talked to the admission people yesterday about terp day registration and when I asked about a later date because we needed the scholarship info before booking $700 of flights, she said it could be late March because there were still some acceptance letters that had to go out. (?).
My son got his Dean’s Scholarship letter in the mail today (in state). Thank you, UMd!
I agree. They should send it via email as well. They already send out other communications via email.
I neglected to say CONGRATS to everyone who is getting the good news!! Good luck to everyone.
We got it today in the mail!! My son (OOS) got $12,000 per year ($48,000 total) President’s Scholarship.
Stats are 1600 (CR and M), 790 W, 800/800/790 on SAT2 Math2/Physics/Latin, GPA 3.99UW/4.68W (one A-),
eight APs with seven 5s and one 4, national ranking in math, student council leadership, and national participation in one oddball sport.
Now I feel less bad about the BK lack of invitation. But OOS it’s still pricey…this is just enough to throw the family decision process into turmoil!
ETA: the letter said this is the most excellent set of applicants in UMD history, so I’m interpreting that as it was extra competitive at all steps of admission…
President’s Scholarship ($5,000 per year) received by regular mail today. OOS, 2220 SAT, 4.0 u/w GPA. Very appreciative, but takes UMCP off the table for us since D has Zell Miller (full tuition) scholarship at Ga. Tech. Congratulations to all recipients!
President’s Scholarship ($8,000/year) by mail today. OOS, 2310 SAT, 3.8 unweighted GPA, national and international math awards. This probably knocks UMCP out of the running, because I would’ve needed a much better offer to choose UMCP over several of my other admittances/FA decisions.
We came home from admitted student event at Purdue to see a UMD envelope…but it was just the notification that S got into the honors college to which he had assigned a whopping 10 points–humanities–where they said they carefully considered students with a strong interest in humanities (which would, if true, so clearly not result in selecting S)…sigh…maybe today will bring a scholarship envelope. I’m not seeing as many posted on here as I would have thought. Maybe they are issuing them in a staggered manner throughout the month.
Does anyone know the rationale behind awarding the Dean’s Scholarship for two years only?
It’s a 3rd level scholarship, below Banneker Key and President’s Scholarship. It’s sort of better-than-nothing scholarship. Even the Deans’ Scholarship is tough to get this year. It’s getting more competitive, especially with the standardized test scores this year.
@s16s18s21s25 Same for us. I saw the envelope yesterday and got excited thought it may be his offer with a scholarship. . Why did they bother we already knew by email that he didn’t get into aces and only into honors college.
Received presidential scholarship in mail yesterday and was very disappointed in the small amount. We are OOS and UMD is now off table for us. My son is very disappointed because UMD was his one of his top picks.
Does anyone know if the merit scholarships (President’s, Dean’s) are being sent out on staggered dates or were they all sent out at once? Not sure whether to still be hopeful.
They’ve said several times by late March, and that was right before people started getting them int he mail. We havne’t gotten anything, but since S was in honors, we thought there might be a little something. It’s harder when there is no blast email, so that everyone else who didn’t get it knows when done. I guess it could come with the whole FA package, whenever that is.
My older daughter, who is a senior in the Honors College, never received any merit aid. I thought my younger daughter would get something, since her stats are higher. So far she hasn’t received anything yet. We know she will get National Merit, since she is a finalist, but that will likely be only be $750-$2,000.
