President's oldest, a rising HS junior, is now the college search mode. :)

Gosh, I hope she has a hook…

I doubt it. I mean she’s an upper class privileged prep school kid from the East Coast, and a female at that! What college would possibly want her?

“Gosh, I hope she has a hook…”

My favorite comment in some time. Must be nice to get to pick any college you want to go to. Kind of like the top high school football player in the country.

Funny, if I were in charge of a university, I would not want the headache of a presidential child on my campus. Especially the type of school she will get to choose from…it is not like those schools need free advertising.

You don’t understand, then, the nature of college presidents, @Torveaux. There’s no college president out there who has the resources who wouldn’t want Ms. Obama in his student body. His or her apple will never shine brighter. the eyes of the world will be on “his” or “her” school. Just the glad-handing alone will be priceless. The wall mounted photographs with the president and the Mrs.? Priceless.

Didn’t she just have an internship/summer job in hollywood? I’m betting she picks the west coast.
(And not Princeton - didn’t her mom hate it there?)

Princeton is on the East Coast, so picking West Coast would fix that. :)

I understand how they think. I like to think that I would have the interests of the school and the other students in mind. The distraction and potential risks would not be worth it to me. Not trying to speak for what they might do.

understood. You’re more hopeful than I am. I’ve been in the trenches too long and watched the egos come and go.

It would be like asking a CEO not to gloat when the president comes to visit “his” or “her” factory. And who’s to say that what’s good for the university president is not good for the school and student body?

I think at most of the schools where she is likely to go, most of the students will be delighted that she is there.

Chelsea Clinton went to Stanford. Amy Carter went to Brown. One of G. W. Bush’s daughters was at Yale, the other at UT-Austin. All those schools managed the publicity. My brother was at Andover with JFK, Jr., and looks a little like him. They joked that people could tell which one was JFK, Jr., by the Secret Service detail surrounding him. My husband met some of Susan Ford’s Secret Service guards when she showed up at frat parties at UVA. Many of these schools have dealt with high-profile students since time immemorial. I’ve heard stories about the saber-wielding guard who slept outside the young Aga Khan’s dorm room at Harvard. The Shah of Iran selected Williams College for his son, because it was perfectly situated to prevent terrorist kidnappings.

So the choice essentially will be Harvard or Stanford?

I’d go to an LAC if I were her.

Makes no difference where she goes, there’s already a cushy job at NBC with limited hours at high salary with her name on it.

I wonder if her father would support that decision.

We had a president’s daughter attend my university (home country). She had 2 black SUVs that would drive her from one building to another (one with just bodyguards in it). A bit silly sometimes as the buildings were not far apart.

Can’t help but think of the Mad TV skit with Alex Borstein portraying Stanford Freshman Chelsea Clinton. A bit too racy to describe here on CC; but hilarious nevertheless.

And folks, don’t think for a minute that Michelle Obama won’t have a HUGE say in the final choice. In my mind, that means Hollywood is out. Palo Alto? Maybe. My money is on Northwestern even though it could be a longshot. It’s Michelle’s type of college.

?? Why do you say that?

UChicago?

Columbia U?
