On the website the PSP merit award lists eligibility requirements:
1) U.S. Citizen
2) Potential for leadership
3) Academic success
4) First year applicant (ie, freshman)

Then it says, "Special consideration is given to students from groups that have been traditionally underrepresented in the STEM fields, including women, ethnic minorities, students from low income backgrounds, students with disabilities and students who will be the first in their family to attend college."

I get that students with URM status will be given "special consideration," but does anyone know if someone has received this full ride award without any of these URM hooks?

I feel like there is an old thread on this if you look back a few years in the Mudd threads. And they had a couple of examples of people who had. My D (Caucasian) applied last year, did not get invited to interview (and did not recive any other merit from Mudd). She is still there and loves it, though.

You can set the Mudd forum to go back to the beginning and scroll through… that is how I found it. Not going to go look again, I have no reason to, but it can’t take more than 10 minutes to do that if you really want the info.

Wow-so I did not see the description before and assumed it was for URMs only, but I see that it mentions students with disabilities. I am so encouraged! My son isn’t yet competitive enough for Mudd (only a 690 on SAT math last year, his soph. year), but I am hoping he can improve on that. He has multiple disabilities yet is doing well in spite of them. My oldest son won the PSP (but didn’t attend Mudd), but he was a stellar student with lots of awards. Still, I will encourage my middle son to apply if he likes Mudd when we visit. Can’t hurt to apply.
