prestige of undergrad matter?

say you get a 3.5 at undergraduate business at tepper in cmu.
and im not sure what lsat score im gonna get yet?

but would coming from cmu's business school enhance your chances over coming from cmu's humanities program which is generally weaker.

and how would cmu's prestige fare in comparison to other schools?

So you really aren't asking about what the university prestige's effect is, but rather what the major effect is. A harder major and a harder school will give you a boost, but only if your numbers already put you in range of the school you are applying at. The only time they help from what I have seen is when it comes down to two applicants with similar numbers. In that case, the 3.8 Physics major from MIT will probably get picked over the 3.8 philosophy major from Podunk University. But if they did not already have similar numbers, the Podunk U philosophy major would have the edge.

Hope that helps!
