I'm not going to get specific about the criteria here, because I'd like as much input as possible. Given the choice between Berkeley's PEIS (Political Economy) major and Economics major, which would you choose and why?

I've been debating between the two for a while now.

This is sort of hard to answer for you because we don’t know what you want/expect from it. I think both degrees are somewhat similar given no preference.

econ. when you go into a job interview with an econ degree from berkeley the know what economics entails and they quickly apply it to the name Berkeley. PEIS makes employers think, ‘what is the major?’ and how can it be useful…

I had the same debate except with operations research management science and a dual major in math/econ.

decided that even though ORMS looked like a more interesting major econ and math would be more widely recognized when I start looking for employment.

but ya I’m with them econ>peis if peis interests you just take some electives in it.

^^i’m doing applied math/econ and i kinda wished i did ORMS since theres a cool 5 year program that you can do afterwards. However, you are correct that math and econ would be more easily recognized. Not many people know what ORMS actually is. What i’m going to do is just end up taking a bunch of IEOR classes (263,221,222 etc.)
