Pretty people

=] very much sense, Thanks Silver_Wavez, gluck to you the same

no probs.
thanks! :)
good luck to u too!! let's hope for the best :)

why are you a bit discouraged? lol...

Just a bit discouraged because of low scores, GPA, etc. =] You know the usual spiel.

There definitely wouldn't be any DISADVANTAGES to sending in a picture, silver. I mean... unless it's an inappropriate one. But I would trust applicants to Columbia to possess some semblance of common sense ;)

Oh and to answer your question: I sent in a picture. Not like a regular sitting in front of the camera smiling picture, it was a sort of silly shot I did for photography.

I've heard from other college-places that they ask for photos for the admissions people so they can see if they recognize you. I think that's silly- there's no way they'd remember anyone... but I sent in a pic anyway. It's one of myself in my coat and everyday wear, outside in the dark. Not smiling, not frowning, just existing. As for being a looker... no. I look like I hadn't slept in a week. But that's in character... I found a picture that captured myself, if that can ever be shown on camera.

" there's no way they'd remember anyone."

hmm.. i think the optional photo serves as a number of things.. yeh to "recognize" applicants may be one of them.
but i think it's just to put name to face.. and make it more personal kinda thing.
and probably they're just curious to see what applicants look like ya know?
well that's just what i think..

but i think it's quite possible that the adcom officer might "recognize" one or two people.. they might not be like o yes thats definitely bob smith! but they could be like "hmm that boy looks familiar"..

i really dont know lol.. im blabbering!
