this is kind of stupid, but when i visited i was shocked/intimidated by how good-looking everyone was. maybe it was a coincidence and i just happened to see the best-looking people on campus, but almost everyone i saw was attractive. did anybody else notice the same thing?? or am i just crazy?

i didn't, lol. so you might just be crazy (jk, of course), or we have very different tastes (i think the latter's the more logical explanation, lol). anyway, i also didn't hear any prospie gushing about williams' good-looking people, so maybe your taste is unique (which is only better for you!)

I have to agree with gardenstategirl :) No one that I've met from Williams has been unattractive. :P woohoo!!

i don't know, i think maybe when i went they locked up all the unattractive people hahaha...but especially compared to dartmouth/haverford/swarthmore/amherst/penn (the other colleges i visited) the guys were all 5'10" to 6'2" and j.crew model-looking and the girls were, although not quite pretty, all really thin and very clean-cut

Lol - compared the people in my area, they were pretty attractive (the guys) ..... or maybe that's just saying something about where i live...hmmm.......

smart AND beautiful... how nice

And the true beauty of it is that Williams doesn't use interviews in their admission decision process... so we can rest easy that it is coincidence and not some superficial aspect of the college to accept only beautiful people. :)

Wow, is it possible you all saw my handsome son? lol :-)

Personally, I think health and happiness contribute a lot to the overall beautiful people impression.

Since I understand there is no Bank of America in Williamstown (maybe we shouold start a BANK FRANCHISE) ...what bank do most students use and what is the easiest way to get your child money into an account without sending checks throught the mail???
Also I hear there is no Starbucks in Williamstown...WHAT's UP WITH THAT???

also is there a branded ATM on campus and what bank does WILLIAMS COLLEGE use to bank with???

Hazzendad- Williams is great about sending you all the information your daughter will need to go to school there, its on its way...just not soon enough when you are anxious and nervous the way most parents are when they send their first one off to school. There are two banks in Williamstown and an ATM on campus. The good news is that our S. has spent very little money while there, most events are free or cost only a dollar or two. We put money in his account when we set it up in August and had him bill his books to his charge card. We have not had to replenish his funds all year. You should get a list very soon of parent names and phone numbers so that you can call current parents and "grill" them about all your child's needs. Plus the alum in our area had an evenig send-off in August with parents invited too and that answered a lot of our questions. She is going to be fine at Williams, I promise.

hazzendad, please do not worry. While there is no Starbucks on campus, there is a coffee shop right on Spring Street that has very good coffee. Besides, you can always hop into any cafeteria and grab some free coffee. I am a Starbucks fanatic, but I am not worried.

No Starbucks, no McDonalds, no Wendy's, no Gap, no A&F, no Barnes and Noble, no chains, no nothing big, national or franchised (except Subway, which was an abberation). Williamstown is definitely the anti-mall, quirky but...still you can get what you need. :)

But I may move to Williamstown JUST to open a Starbucks !!! I bet the kids on campus would thank me !!!!
Hope to meet everyone soon !!
We are looking forward to a wonderfulk 4 years

hazzendad, good luck with the very first Billsville Starbucks, but I think there's a town ordinance against chains/franchises. Subway, as momrath mentioned, somehow snuck in under the radar. But we've got Papa Charlies, Tunnel City Coffee, Helen's Place, and other great local spots, so we don't miss Starbucks too much.

About the bank-- there is a Williamstown Savings Bank ATM on campus (Hopkins Hall right now, moved from the student center), and WSB itself is practically on campus (on rt. 2 in front of the studio art building). There's also a WSB ATM next to the coffee shop on Spring Street. The other option in town is BankNorth, which is on Spring Street. Most students have a checking account at one of the two.

Wait 'til orientation and they'll probably be offering water bottles or tool kits or something to get you to sign up...
