Prevalence of Catholicism

I was wondering whether the school's catholic affiliation plays a large influence on campus life. Are dorms coed? Do most students abstain from drinking? Does a large part of the student body attend services?

I'm not Catholic so I wanted to know whether I'd really feel the influence of the school's affiliation.

Also, does the school give out a lot of merit scholarships?
I'm applying early action and I'm almost positive I'll get in, but the only way I'd be able to go is if they offered me a substantial merit scholarship.

can anyone help me out here???

Almost all the frosh/soph dorms are coed… no, it’s still a college campus which means that there is plenty of drinking. Some students do, but I mean there are plenty of students that aren’t Catholic.

Not sure about the scholarships, but I don’t think Villanova is well known for their financial aid.

I think they are trying to give more financial aid each year… like what they gave for 09’ went up like 9% from last year… but yea. There is still a problem with financial aid.

They have “visiting hours” for the opposite sex (duh, Catholic school) but they’re almost always broken. Of course, they don’t hand out condoms like they do in other schools, but seriously now… you have thousands of good-looking teens not living at home. Things happen. jckund is right it’s a college there’s lots of drinking. They talk about how we have a drinking problem… but seriously, every college does. Just don’t be stupid about it. The RAs (upperclassmen residence people who look after the halls) don’t care their rule is if they see it they have to write you up, if they don’t, they don’t. If you get caught there are fines and you get written up.

if you’re not catholic not to worry it’s really not a problem. if anything it’s just an advantage cuz you’ll be good in class if there’s some bible reading you can just talk from what you know. church is nice tho (when i go every once and in a while) cuz people here aren’t sleeping the guy talking is usually pretty entertaining. i remember him alluding to the taylor-swift kanye west incident and joking about it — most adults here are pretty up to date. plus side to being in a catholic school – the boys are relatively nicer and usually do stick to one girl. there is a reason 60% of couples here do get married…
