Not sure we are the ones to ask, but I have a feeling, , being able to pay, decent EC’s and LOR’s HS (graduating class of 67, where they had known him since he was 3), and yes, being a being a black male with competitive SAT’s probably helped.

They could use a bit of help in the black male department, if you are into that sort of thing. .

Admission counselor said most live completed physics and calculus.

I can’t speak to the engineering at SCU, but I also attended the preview days event. The campus is absolutely stunning, and I was extremely impressed with the Lucas Hall building for business, although I didn’t get to check out the engineering hall. Most of the buildings were very new, the classrooms were packed with technology, and the professors seemed very interesting and passionate. Engineering did seem like a fairly popular major from what I saw, but I haven’t looked into the programs at all.

The major thing that caused me to be hesitant on SCU was that I thought that it would be “overly religious” but I was really pleasantly surprised at how it really was not forcing anything down your throat and that it was very open to other forms of belief. The event as a whole was great, although it dragged on a little long for my taste. I would strongly recommend a campus visit if possible for people who might be unsure on SCU due to its religious affiliation, it really opened my eyes and I’m proud to say I will be a part of SCU’s class of 2015!

I was very impressed with the preview day today, and it really helped me narrow down my choices. I can say with near certainty that I will be going to scu next year.

Totally agree the campus was as beautiful as we’ve seen. That said, son didn’t feel the love like he did at Marquette last weekend and Gonzaga yesterday. Sure, the ambassadors were outgoing, but when he chatted up the “normal” students, he felt like there was an SCU “mold” he didn’t fit into. Maybe it’s the well-to-do Cali vibe, but it turned him off (we’re from the Midwest). Funny, he met a bunch of California kids at Gonzaga who like GU because it got them out of that Cali “bubble” (as one kid defined it).

70 degrees and sunny – by far the best weather we’ve had at nine campus visits – does not necessarily equate to a warm campus. How he’s going to choose between Marquette and Gonzaga, I have no clue. Can’t lose either way.

Son did Gonzaga a few weeks ago and it SNOWED!

Son took it off the list, with some regrets, this morning. Even though he new we might be able to get him a car if he went there. COA was that much less for us. He really wants to stay in California.

Yenmor the campus seemed way larger and more modern than it did in 2008. The library, the stadium, and Malley center really set a different tone. Still, the Mission and rose garden are there, and an interesting touch as well.

The engineering presentations were informative and encouraging, especially with regard to who recruited there, and where kids went after graduation. Not sure if the results reported were average or exceptional. The civil engineering professor was particularly lively and engaging. The mech engineering guy not so much, but he gave us some sort of geek tool. Didn’t get to any of the labs, but visited an award winning solar home project.

We were served coffee and muffins at breakfast, sandwiches and chips at lunch. Nice, because it was a long day. When we came to Massey for lunch, there was a marching band and cheerleaders to welcome us.

Dorms where nice enough; rooms larger than any my D has had so far.

There were friendly, cheerful ambassadors everywhere.

Some, but not many black folks. Not as few as at Gonzaga. Not as diverse as LMU.

I’ll let my daughter, a former student ambassador, know that Preview Days were well done. Student ambassadors do get paid for things like tours and work in the admissions office. They do NOT get paid for hosting Preview Days but it is part of their job…and they know from the get go that they have to be there. DD said it was a LOT of fun. She enjoyed it every year.

DD (as many of you know) has a degree from SCU in bioengineering. DH is an engineer as well and he was very impressed with the rigor of the course of study and the facilities. DD got excellent advising and the faculty was very approachable. Every engineering major is required to do a senior project and this is a good feature as well.

The weather…well…DD said it couldn’t be beat. The rose gardens are spectacular as are the rest of the facilities. The new Library/Learning Commons is state of the art. The Malley Fitness Center is nice but the new aquatic center (pool) is spectacular. The school really takes excellent care of its facilities.

I can’t say enough good things about our daughter’s experiences at SCU.
