Primary/Alternate Choices, Can I write similar (almost same structure) esays??

I am want to apply for AEM as primary and CAS's economics as alternate...
Can I or should I write almost same essay since both colleges essay topics are quite smiliar.
my intros and conclusions have same structure. My intro for both essays is about why i want to attend Cornell and my interests in worlds' economy and business issues

the middle part are different, since both colleges are quite different... the middle part is about about how the academic program will prepare me to become leaders in my field of study.

are both schools going to see all two essays, or just the one for their college? please help me....... thx!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My primary and alternate essays were similar, but i would tailor each to make it specific to the college you're applying to. For example, in your CAS essay, maybe talk about how you like the idea of a liberal arts education while being able to focus on economics. Maybe that's a bad example but that's what I thought of off the top of my head.

mine were exactly the same, except i changed the name of the college. =\ not exactly proud of that, but oh well.

i don't think it really matters since very very few actually get into their second choice college so most of the time, they don't look at the second essay.

yeah, thx guys, that's what i thought...but i am just afraid both colleges are going to see both essays. thinking i am kinda a lazy person..

The way Cornell uses the primary/alternate makes it so that each college only sees one essay. If you don't get into your primary college, they choose whether or not your application is worthy to go on to your alternate college. If so, your alternate essay is switched in for your primary, and your application goes to the other college. This isn't to say that you shouldn't change your essays between the two colleges, because they are definitely distinct schools, but just know that one will never see the other. Good luck!!

Actually your primary college CAN read your alternate essay, and if your application gets forwarded to your alternate college, they CAN read your primary essay. Chances are they won't, though, as they have thousands of other applications to read through.

Most likely what will happen is CALS will read only your primary essay, and either accept, waitlist, or reject you. CAS will probably never see your application.

An admissions counselor at Cornell told me that the two colleges don't see the other essay. And anyway, just make your essay about how your interests relate to the specific college, and if that happens to be similar between the two essays, so be it.
