Just imagine that in 3 months, our future path, the people we will meet, the friends we will make, the professors, the career… all of it will be a little clearer to us :)

12 weeks! I need to stop posting on CC. I keep getting excited, but I gotta keep it in perspective. Out of 20,000 people Princeton has to make a class of 5,000 si si si? holy cow! I wonder how they do it!

3 monkeys in a restroom in West College flush applications down three toilets during a 72 hour period before notification day. They keep flushing until each toilet backs up. The applications that float after the backing up begins are skimmed off the top and accepted. If the monkeys pull out too many skimmed apps (more than the required yield, say >6.9% of the pool), the extras are placed on a wait list.

Now that is funny!

Class of 5000?

Thanks Owlehn!!

I just got back from my interview that I think went really well!! :D

hahaha classof79!

Idiosyncra3y–it was late, easy to get numbers mixed up. I just looked at the numbers of people who apply and the number of people who get accepted for UPenn this year. 30,800 applications!! 30,000!

Congrats on the good interview! Do they do anything for your app?

Thanks! As to whether they do anything for your app, I know that the interviewers write an evaluation, but I think it’s one of those things that is going to hurt you a lot if you mess up, but isn’t going to have too much of an effect if you do well. I mean, I don’t actually know, and it probably depends on the school. But, that is my opinion, in general.

Actually, Klika, the interview is really something that doesn’t have much of an effect either way. If it goes great, then it may give you a little bump up. If it goes poorly, it’s still only going to have a marginal affect on your application, if any at all - this is an actual description by a Princeton adcom. They understand that the the subjectivity of the interview is not balanced like the rest of your application: multiple adcoms read multiple accounts of who you are written by yourself, teachers, and counselors who have known you for months or years, while the interview is one perception of one account generated in an hour or so of conversation. Ultimately, the interview is a small contribution to the greater average of “you” that the adcoms decide upon. Holistic. Om.

^My thinking though is like Klika22.Good interviews may not be that much of a boost, but a bad interview may bust our chances. At least that’s the way I see it.

What defines a bad interview? I think you’d have to reveal some pretty heinous things, e.g. in a fit of name dropping mention that Malcolm Gladwell wrote your Common App essay, or do some pretty inappropriate things, e.g. strip tease, during your interview for it to “bust your chances.” A bad impression by an alumni interview won’t “bust your chances.” It just won’t help you.

^It’d be pretty impressive if you managed to get Malcolm Gladwell to agree to write your essay… lol.

Thinking ahead a bit, but when are admitted students weekends? Can’t find it anywhere on the web.

^^hahahaha a bit? I have no clue, if it’s not on the website then they probably haven’t established them nor are they ready to post them perhaps

Actually, getting Malcolm Gladwell is easier than you think - posthumous ghostwriting is all the rage now. Henry James and John Updike are hot right now, so Gladwell’s been dipping prices to compete.

Western…you asked “What defines a bad interview?”. I think I have a simpler answer to that than the ones you gave, lol! I think ‘A BAD ATTITUDE’ is the one single factor that can make a bad interview.Being shy,or nervous,or even clumsy will pass the mark, but a lousy attitude won’t(some things just can’t be masked you know). And I really believe that a good interview report might not have much of a positive effect at all,but a bad report will definitely be taken very seriously by admissions. That’s what I meant by ‘busting chances’.

I think I have to agree.

Had my interview today.

It was pretty short and I didn’t really get to talk about myself a lot. I didn’t screw up tho so I don’t think it’s gonna have a very negative effect on my application.

Now we wait…

I ended up not applying, despite my legacy. I am happy saving money in state (not to mention I couldn’t get in anyway).

^Good for you Engineerjw. :)

I haven’t gotten my interview request yet. Getting slightly worried since Princeton does interview almost everyone, and my country has plenty of Princetonians. Till when does one stand a chance of getting one? I’d rather get it over soon. I’m already fretting over getting a dumpy guy with frumpy mustache, monocle and all, who pounces at everything I say and pronounces everything in a highly thoughtful and disdainful tone.
God I need to stop over thinking this.
