Princeton 2019 SCEA Hopefuls Thread

you know, it’s not really about how academically strong you are. if you make the cutoff, then you’re okay. I’m not even in the top 10% in my school and I know people like me that’ve gotten into Princeton.

:) Yeah, it’s probably not a big deal. I am kinda concerned though because of how scheduling works at my school and my commitment to certain classes, like orchestra and german, I couldn’t take as many AP classes as some of my classmates. I hope my guidance counselor explained that I took as many as I feasibly could (9).
One thing that gives me hope though is my good friend who has similar scores and gpa as me and strong extracurriculars got into Duke! So that was cool.

@yehbip You have no reason to worry! You’re in the top 3% of your class! It seems to me that the other two people applying from your school are not as compelling (in regards to extracurriculars). Honestly, there is very little difference between a 4.0 and 3.9 GPA.

@Ambitious19 Don’t worry about what your classmates think! I agree with everyone in that just from this thread, you’re most definitely a wonderful person. You have your own goals, and you’re determined to achieve them. We really need to keep our heads clear and independent of others’ opinions - positive or negative.

@Ambitious19‌ Thanks! You are too kind. You rule this thread tbh. I’m very sorry that some people at your school treat you badly. Some people just get rubbed the wrong way by successful people. Don’t let them bother you and try to kill them with kindness I guess? I wish you the best of luck!!!

Its not just “friends” at school. I had one of my friend’s parents tell me I didn’t deserve to go to an elite school and take up the space that could go to a stem major. Of course, that friend’s parents have spent a boat load of money on summer courses designed to get their kid into the ivies.

@Opinion559‌ cheating is very much prevalent, almost accepted at my school, which is unhealthily competitive (in reply to your earlier post).

Really are there specific summer courses you can take to get into HYPSM? Most of the well known summer programs are merit based. So I cannot beleive that they can pay their way into Princeton. Of course, unless you donate in the millions or you have famous parents!

Hey guys, I am new to this thread and have been following it for awhile. Everyone seems really supportive, and I hope that we’ll all end up in the right place in the end  Did anyone get an email saying their application was complete? I checked the portal this afternoon, and it said that we would be emailed saying that our applications are complete. For the past 2 weeks, the portal said that my application was complete (before it was disabled), but I never got an email saying so. Should I be worried about this?

I remember a few weeks ago, someone said that the Princeton thread was the most welcoming/nicest of the Ivies. Looking at these posts now, it’s really hard to disagree. :-)

@Opinion559‌ what I meant was summer courses designed to make their son look attractive. Like intensive language courses, STEM camps, sat boot camps. Since 8th grade. Nothing wrong with that if you’ve done it, but clearly some parents push it and don’t like the competition.

@kohgy378 I got an email back at the end of October when I submitted my app saying “Dear [name], Your application for admission to Princeton University is complete, and we look forward to reviewing it.” Maybe they’re referring to that.

I mean I get that people don’t like me, I’m not very likable or sociable at best, but spending that much time and money just to spite someone…ugh I’ll just enjoy my weekend and study for finals and stop dwelling on people I’ll hopefully never see again after May.

Less than 2 full days (48 hours) left!!! I need to stop staring at my various countdown timers…

@Ambitious19 Do you go to Monta Vista High?

@Ambitious19 Wow, I honestly can’t believe people would do so much just to accomplish something completely pointless. Judging from all the posts on the thread, I can tell that you’re not only a very qualified candidate but also a wonderful and supportive human being :)

And I have to agree with Daedalus3140, this thread is literally the nicest that I’ve ever seen. I genuinely wish we can all get in together : /

@Ambitious19‌ : wow well then ur classmates are very sad people who clearly feel so insecure that they need to comfort themselves by messing with you. keep your head up, hopefully princeton will see right through them!

looking forward to hearing good things from all of us! I only hope I can get in with all of you great people.

Also, it’s sad how much respect people have for anything non-STEM these days (at least where I live). But then again, humanities candidates like some of us, as much as we want to avoid thinking about it, have to struggle once in a while between our passions and “more promising” career paths.

I’m from New York and there aren’t many STEM programs outside of the city. I don’t think being a non-STEM student can hurt you because it just isn’t available everywhere

Also good luck everyone, Monday will be here before we know it!

How many other schools are you applying to (if Monday doesn’t go as well as hoped)? I am into 4 and have 8 others RD in addition to P. That seems sufficient, but with how brutal the competition looks on the Harvard page, it got me wondering.
