Just in case folks aren’t aware, Princeton tries to offer an interview to all applicants, and typically about 98% of applicants who want an interview get one (they’re not mandatory). If someone doesn’t get offered an interview, it’s not a reflection of the applicant’s qualifications or likelihood of admission – it’s because there wasn’t a local alumnus/alumna available to do an interview. (This year, of course, all interviews are being done remotely; it’s not yet clear how this will affect interview availability.)
You can definitely use 350 words. All three of my “about 250” word Princeton essays were 345+. The common app box is the limit, you shouldn’t artificially limit yourself to less than what is allowed.
I know this is short notice (if anyone is on this thread; it seems kinda vacant), but I’m freaking out. My counselor hasn’t submitted my letter of recommendation yet, and I don’t see him doing it before the due date. Say they were a week late. How poorly would this reflect on me and harm my admissions chances?
hey! i’m sorry to hear that, don’t freak out but i believe that you can submit some recommendation letters a few days after the deadline. i believe they allow a window of 1 week or more. i could be wrong though, try and reach out to him.
I would email or call the Admissions Office and let them know. My kid had something similar happen with an application to a different school and the Admissions Office said it was no problem and they would make note in my kid’s file.
Hey yall
Im an international where English is taught as a foreign language (so nothing close to an English speaking country). While reading the Princeton website about the graded written paper, I saw “the paper should not be translated to English, it should be written in English”. By that logic works from history, sociology etc etc wont be accepted as all of them I’ve written in my native language, so id have to translate.
This is a big problem for me as we don’t generally do big written works in English class, just grammar, vocabulary, short translations and short essays (and i mean really short like 50-150 words) because we arent native speakers. I have a wonderful work in history i would like to submit and which i already translated with the help of my English teacher though.
Id appreciate any thoughts
Anyone aware of how many applications Princeton received this year and when we should expect decisions will be released?
Ivy Day is when all Ivy League schools declare the results, and it is on the 31st March this year.
Thanks - I wondered if it would be delayed…I heard a lot more applicants this year because schools went test optional and it opened up the top schools to many who would not have applied otherwise.
I just got emailed for an alumni interview today (Jan 8). Has anyone else gotten an interview request? I find it sort of strange that it has only been a week since the deadline and that they already asked me for one. Is that bad?
its nothing bad, they hold the interviews in january.
Hey mate,
Sorry to hear about your situation. This probably isn’t very helpful, but I’m not sure applying you should be applying to a school where you aren’t fluent in the sole language that is spoken. That said, I’m not sure about your other qualifications, and it may be that you are incredibly intelligent, and that you would be able to overcome the language barrier and keep up with the extremely demanding academics of schools like Princeton. By your message it seems like you’re quite good at English (if you didn’t use a translator that is), however I’m inclined to ask why you think going to school where you don’t speak the primary language is a good idea.
Sorry if this rubs off the wrong way, just curious.
The OP is fluent in English, but he/she is attending a school where English is not the language of instruction. A lot of international students in college come from countries with not natives english speakers.
Yeah, english isnt the problem, just the fact that there arent any essays in english. But thats not a problem anymore either since I found one As for why i wanna attend princeton i guess thats pretty obvious. My country is fine, but the opportunities here absolutely pale in comparison with what princeton offers.
@kajndkejkfj, It’s not strange at all. Once the university receives applications, it assigns interviews to local alumni committees, who then divvy up the interview assignments among their members. Since all applicants are offered interviews (unless an interviewer can’t be found), the timing of the interview invitation depends almost entirely on when the applicant submitted their application and how quickly the alumni move forward when they receive their interview assignments. It definitely has nothing to do with the applicant’s qualifications.
Do y’all think there will be a lot more applications this year? I think since there was no REA, some people may have already accepted ED or EA offers at other schools. Still think there will be more though, but maybe not to the extent that the early round saw
I have been wondering the same. I bet there will still be overall more applications this year since TO, but look forward to seeing the data once its released.
I think there will be a lot more applications this year, I’m wondering if they will uphold to not disadvantaging applicants who didn’t submit test scores.
hi everyone, i haven’t received an alumni interview yet is that normal
I received an email yesterday saying “Missing Financial Aid Documents” with 15 days to go for the deadline to submit the Financial Aid Docs at Princeton, is this some kind of a hint?
