Okay theres this girl at my school, non athlete, who claims she has already been accepted to princeton, but I thought princeton was only regular decision. So, is it possible that she is telling the truth? I really do not know why she would lie but I also am pretty sure about the admissions process for Pton. Thanks

Nobody has been accepted yet. Some recruited athletes have been given likely letters, but nobody has “been accepted” yet, including the liar at your school.

Supereagle: You said basically the same thing over on the Harvard forum. What’s the real story here?

Also in other posts, you claim to have been accepted to Yale in April 09. Come clean please

Sherpa: by the way, Likely Letters (including non-athlete recipients) are a possibility starting on Oct 1.

lmao t26e4 yea im a soph at yale now. But a few chicks back at my old HS school have made these claims, one claiming to have been accepted to princeton and the other to harvard. I encouraged them to go EA to yale( cause I love it) but they say they are already in at these schools and I basically told them I didnt believe it because, well, I dont see how. sorry for the confusion lol

@T26E4 - Yes, LLs go out beginning Oct. 1, and they are not technically limited to athletes but I’d be surprised if, this early in the cycle, any non-athletes have received one yet. Also, though LLs are extremely reliable, they are not “acceptances”, so supereagle’s acquaintance’s claimed acceptance is surely untrue.

sherpa, are you telling me you have seen someone get a likely yet still not get in? I always thought a likely was as good as an acceptance. And yea, i guess theres no reason it cant be true, but ive seen much more impressive candidates not get any kind of likely.

No. Over in the Athletic Recruiting subforum there’s an occasional rumor of a failed LL, but they always turn out to be untrue. I would consider LLs equivalent to nonbinding ED acceptances, reliable subject only to a major, rescission level problem, such as a precipitous drop in grades, criminal behavior, or academic dishonesty.

I’m probably being overly technical in saying it is not an acceptance, but it is true. I’ve known a lot of LL recipients, and all have seemed careful not to claim to have been accepted until they receive their actual acceptance. They might say “I’ve got a LL; I’m going to Princeton”, but they haven’t said they’ve been accepted until they have been.

So yes, I am very skeptical of your schoolmate’s claimed acceptance to Princeton. A likely letter sounds unlikely, and her behavior sounds uncharacteristic for a LL recipient.

Do you know anything about her family? Maybe she was a QuestBridge applicant.
