Princeton Engineering/Admissions Questions

Hello. I'll likely be applying to Princeton but realized I still had a lot of questions while I was writing my essays. If you could help me answer them, I'd appreciate it.

When do princeton engineering students pick the department they want to enter?

Does Princeton accept applicants based on what degree the applicants want to pursue? In other words, does Princeton say, “We’re going to accept 1600 people interested in arts and sciences and 400 people interested in engineering?”

If they don’t accept people based on degree choices, when do accepted students pick which type of degree they want to pursue?

Would it be advantageous/disadvantageous/no difference to indicate one of arts and sciences or engineering over the other?

Engineering students technically choose a major at the same time as everyone else, but you have certain courses you need to take to be able to choose whatever engineering major you are interested in. For example, to be an electrical engineer, you need to take a couple of engineering classes before you can declare that your major.

No. Not to my knowledge, anyway.

N/a

If you are a girl, then it is advantageous to say you will major in engineering. Otherwise, there is no noticeable difference.

For advising purposes, engineers pick a department at the end of freshman year.
