Princeton Engineering Demograohics

I was talking to my guidance counselor about my deferral today and told her that part of what makes me valuable to schools is that I’m a white female interested in engineering who is currently taking multivariate calc. (Or at least carnegie mellon liked this) Anyway, she told me that Princeton probably has a lot of people who fit into this category for engineering. Would you say what my guidance counselor said is true? I’m wondering how accurate she is. Or, could it also just be that Princeton admits to the school and not by engineering or not? Thanks!

Or is this just something no one knows?

I think you’re probably correct that there are relatively few white females with your interests and I expect that, in the early round, those applicants are spread broadly between HYPSM and a few others. Assuming your stats are strong you should have good options for next year.

As an aside, I visited a recent white female Yale graduate at Google today and we agreed that white females were greatly underrepresented there.

Thank you! (And yes! My guidance counselor was wrong!)

@Pianomonster20 Princeton admits to the university, but applying for BSE with the engineering essay should help.

If you visit Princeton SEAS page: https://www.princeton.edu/pub/profile/academics/engineering/

You will find this info:

36% female is pretty good, but I’m sure they are looking for more. While being female is helpful, being white isn’t. So call it a very slight advantage.

In this case, being a white female is probably more helpful than being Asian, male or female.

@sherpa true. My son’s female engineering classmates are mostly Asian.
