engineering?

How many students apply to Princeton engineering and is it easier to get into Princeton if you applied to engineering? Lol, I'm a senior and applied there for engineering and I'm trying to convince myself I have a slight chance.

From your name i am assuming you are a girl. Supposedly, being a women and applying to P Engineering, a mostly male major, is a boost.

I also applied there too, not for a hope of better chance but becuase I like my engineering class

Yeah I’m really interested in engineering too. I took the toughest math and science courses offered. I was just wondering if a lot of students applied to Princeton engineering.

I did. It’s good to know I can get a boost for being a woman.

Good Luck Anna! Though perhaps i shouldn’t be wishing people luck because mine’s pretty rotten…

I am one of them.

You get a boost if you’re a girl. During orientation this year, the Dean of SEAS boasted that the gender ratio was 50/50. Of course by now that has changed as people drop out of engineering, but it is clearly something that they aim for.

Go to Stanford.

^^Why do you say that?

What majors typically have fewer males to females as to garner an advantage in the admissions process for males? What about ethnicity?

If you have engineering-oriented extra-curriculars, then it would be an advantage to apply as an engineering major.

It’s best to apply as whatever you appear strongest at.

It’s only going to give you a boost if you’ve shown a significant interest in math/science/engineering related fields throughout your whole application (taking a full rigorous courseload in math and science, the types of ECs you were involved in, etc). Also, in your essay when you answer “why engineering at Princeton?”, you have to really be able to demonstrate a true passion for the field and also explain how Princeton best suits your interests in engineeering.

I mean, it’s not gonna be a huge boost if you just SAY you want to go into engineering because you think it’ll help (since it’s not binding or anything), have nothing to back up your claim, and then write a mediocre essay 'cause you have no real passion for it.

Hope this helped.

Good Luck! :)
