Princeton FAQ: Get your questions answered by current students

Native Americans are one of the most underrepresented groups at Princeton. With your scores, your application will definitely be given a serious look.

does fin aid affect the admission for an international??

No. Princeton is Need-Blind. Your asking for aid doesn't affect your chances of admission.

please go through Princeton's website before asking these basic questions! All the best!

If I send Princeton two sets of ACT scores will they take the best of each section like they do for the SAT? I would have a 31 if they did and a 30 if not...
Thank you!

finalists who ranked COLUMBIA or PRINCETON are going to be contacted for a interview before the dateline(Dec 1st )?

I don't want to be sarcastic but what are the chances of a Chinese-American Female from NYC with 2360 getting in? I hear that it is very hard.

Your chances are as good as anyone's. Good SAT score? But is that all you bring to the table? What's with being Chinese American? Don't fool yourself, your being of a particular creed or caste doesn't make any difference except if you are an URM. So, if you are a good candidate they will take you in. So, relax and make the most of the application. Cheers!

if i have both math1 and math2 as 2 of my3 sat's the adcvoms wont even consider my app??or will my chances do down significantly??or is it ok since they dont mention anything on the site??

Hey Princeton Students (my idols, in whose position i would very much like to be right now lol)
I'm the valedictorian of my school, with a 2240 on the SAT, I've been playing soccer since the age of 3 and I am currently the captain of my Varsity team ranked 6/216 schools in New York City. My extracurriculars show the passion and determination i exhibit in school and on the field but many of them are obscure, local or regional things. For instance, one of my greatest passions in life is a competition called SING!. It's mainly confined to the New York City region and it consists of a completely original theatrical performance in which grades compete for the highly coveted SING cup, by creating a show with an original storyline, dances, sets, etc. I've been a Script Director and Overall Director of the show each year and my grade is the first to win 3 consecutive SING cups in my school's history (Winning as Juniors in a major upset against the Seniors, and later in the regional competition against other schools). I am planning to send in my script which is professionally formatted, as a supplemental material. Do you think it will be considered as a major work of drama even though admissions officers may not necessarily know what it's all about. It has honestly been one of the most integral aspects of my high school career and I hope to get that point across by submitting the script or possibly the DVD of the shows.
What do you think?

This is a bit old, but here's a partial answer to tomjonesistheman's question: Princeton's one of the BEST places you can major in math. Math and physics here are two of the strongest departments, with tons of incredibly smart people in either subjects (both students and professors). The math and physics classes here are definitely the most hardest classes you can take, but you definitely will learn a lot. There are math classes here that literally make you feel smarter after you get through them (with tons of hard work of course, because it's going to be very challenging, even for those that are very gifted in math). So yeah, if you're the slightest bit interested in math (or pretty much any other subject), definitely apply to Princeton.

Do you guys think that two different science teachers (specifically physics and chemistry) would qualify as two different subject areas? My couonselor already mailed everything, but I haven't submitted my application yet. Should I try and change it to math and a science?

There's no problem with that. Afaik, only Columbia SEAS poses such a restriction. But it would be nicer if you had one science and one non-science teacher writing for you, you may not wanna come across as a person who can solve all the equations in the world but has never heard of Shakespeare!
whats the most important thing in the pton interveiw?

Wow, it's been a long time since I've been on this forum. I was a bit obsessed with it my senior year of high school.

I'm a Junior at Princeton now. This forum has very little useful advice, and even less relevant information. Colleges like Princeton really don't care that much how you know about their school before you apply, they're simply interested in taking the best applicants possible. In light of this, and because it's so easy to apply, I encourage you to simply apply to all the top schools on the Common Application, and research your accepted choices. It will save you a tremendous amount of stress.

This might be a really stupid question, but when Princeton say "Common Application" does it mean the Common Application part of the Big Common Application thing, or does it mean the Whole Common Application thing, including the common app, the supplement, the teacher recom., and the school reports?
To be more specific, does Princeton also accept the online teacher recom. and SSR on the Common application website or does it only accept the Princeton one?

^hey, i'm applying to Princeton too using the common application. When I was told "common app school" I assumed it would mean the whole package.

would princeton be a good school to study chemistry at?

I have a couple friends that are Chem Majors. One of them is doing an EARLY concentration, and she is doing research on her free time on superconductors.

I don't have any in-depth experience with chem, but they they like Chemistry here =). (Maybe I'll ask one of them in the next few days about it)

The chem department is full of characters. The professors are great people.

hey...
i was wondering if the "Quotation/define your values" essay could come up to a 1000 words? (ie 7000 characters including spaces but not double spacing)

any current student who did that for class of 2012 admissions ?

thanks for any help
