Princeton INterview

i'm in beijing, and i'm dong it over chinese new yrs brk.

i'm a bit nervous, since i think there were lessons i learned from my last interview.

if i were to give any advice to ppl who are going to do interivews,

its the cheesy: be urself.

i think my interviewer was a bit thrown off by generic, i am spectacular language, and prob foudn it fake, well she expressed it in really nice terms...

but she was cool about it and i think she liked me otherwise~ lol :)

my pu interviewere is fluent in chinese, so i mite get to do it in chiense.

but u never knwo, my last one was by a white lady who was fluent in chiense, but it was still in eng~

Hi all! I am a new user to these forums (lol).

I got contacted for my interview today for an interview next weekend. Any tips?

How should I dress? It's in a coffee shop, sounds casual, but I dunno.

What kind of stuff do they ask (if anything)?

Any tips in general?

Thanks :)

So I just got contacted by my interviewer, and he's a doctor who graduated in 1967! What questions could I ask him when I'm sure Princeton has changed just a little bit in the last forty years! Plus, it's going to be a lot more intense right? All the interviews I've had so far have been with people who have graduated in the last ten years. Were any of you interviewed by older people?

As an older person, perhaps I can help:).

Ask him what he most valued in his Princeton education when he was there, how it has been valuable over time.

Ask has he been to any Reunions? If he says no, move on, and assume he is not a Tiger, Old Nassau type of alum. If he says yes, ask him what they are like.

Ask him what his single most vivid academic memory is. Ask him what his single most vivid non-academic memory is.

So my Princeton alumni interviewer emailed me about a week ago. It was a pretty strange email, where she basically just said "this is where you are meeting me, these (x, x, x) are the times that are available." I was a little put off, to say the least.

Anyway, today I was rushing to get to my 1pm interview with her...on the way I was driving like a maniac trying to get there on time, but knew I was about ten minutes late so I called her cell to apologize/say I was on my way, etc. She picks up and is like, "UMmm, it's not until next week."
Yea, I was actually seven days early for my interview. Took a big chunk out of my day and now the interviewer thinks I am crazy. great.

lol @ icecream.

I've had one older Harvard interviewer and one older Yalie as well.

Two completely different experiences. It really depends on the person more than the age. The Harvard guy was unimaginably stuffy, cold, and unresponsive. The Yale interviewer, however, was very warm, inviting, and personable.

In other words, don't be afraid just because he's "old."

I had my interview today!! lol I think it went pretty ok.. but hen again it dosn't matter that much ha.. so yea.. It lasted like for half hour or more, it was just really conversational, nothing evaluative..

My interview was about 20-30 minutes long and the interviewer knew almost all of my teachers (kind of weird). The interview was conversational but it was also evaluative. I hope it went well. The interviewer was shocked when I told her that all of my classes were AP. So hopefully she tells the Admission Office how I like challenges. I HOPE I GET IN! Good luck to the rest of you!

You're lucky, EmekChris! I WISH all of my classes were AP, because I'd totally be down for it... but my school only offers a total of 7 AP classes (one of which is AP Art, which I'm not interested in and couldn't even join without years of art class so that doesn't even count for me).

I tried to explain that to my Princeton interviewer, that my school doesn't really have a strong AP program, and he's just like "um, okayy..." as if he couldn't process the idea of a school only offering a few APs.

lol good luck btw!

Pink001,

If that's the case, why not take classes at another high school or a local college?

Although my school has a lot of AP courses, many of them aren't offered every year because we need so many students in order to actually have the class. So, I've planned to take 2-3 courses at a college next year (my senior year).

Yes, I have taken a couple classes outside of high school.

Still... I was just commenting on how nice it would be to have a more demanding high school curriculum.

Good luck next year!

Oh okay, that makes sense. :)

And thanks!

I was just contacted a couple of days ago by my Princeton interviewer. My interview will be late next week. I found this to be kind of odd. Am I wrong, or does it seem a little bit late in the process to be arranging interviews? How common is it for Princeton to be doing interviews at the end of February?

KM45, I think your interviewer is a procrastinator. My interviewer said that this week was supposed to be the last week for interviews, lol. Good luck anyway!

i got the interview request 1 day before the interview! just did it over the phone (all the way form new york!). about an hour. pretty conversational too. went well i think. anyway all the best everyone!

My interview was 20 minutes long. It went pretty well but it seemed so short. The guy didn't even take notes or anything haha

I got an e-mail yesterday from my interviewer and I'm having my interview by phone today. Also, I just googled my interviewer's name.. and wow! She's a very successful person... Now I am really excited :)

My interview last about two hours. It's the best interview I've ever had. The interviewer is really really nice.

Ok, so I just had my interview. It was 20 minutes long and I feel that it was ok. Of course, I could have done better, but... que sera, sera.

Also, would it be inappropriate to add my interviewer as a friend on Facebook? :)
