Princeton Laboratory Learning Program 2017

Hey guys I just applied to Princeton’s Laboratory Learning Program for this summer and I won’t hear back until possibly May! I consider myself to be a strong applicant, but I was wondering what other people’s science & lab experience is just to get a feel for the applicant pool. I’ve won some science fairs and done research at an institution. Hbu?

I’ve done no research, but I placed in 3 national essay contests (won 1st place in one, and all related to science). I founded a mathematics club and am a member of a bunch of science clubs, also am a CTY student and took G&T bio courses at a local college. I also took multiple online courses in biology and physics and CS50. I did USABO this year but I think I failed it really badly…

I applied for the LSI01 and CHE01. Which opportunities did you apply for?

I applied for CHE05 and MAE01! Hopefully we both get in! I’m taking the Chem Olympiad on Monday and I’m hoping it’s similar to the previous exams

@simeonss ^^ I have not found much information about it on the internet. Do you think it’s difficult to get into? I saw on one thread they accept more ppl than they say they can have.

I have no idea, but I assume it’s selective being Princeton and all, plus there are only about 30-40 intern spots if you look at the research opportunities list.

EDIT: I found this (I am unsure if this is correct though) https://pwb.princeton.edu/2014/08/27/high-school-students-embark-on-scientific-journeys/ It says that in 2014, they accepted 39 students.

Do you think results will come out earlier than end up of May?

I’m assuming that if you get in, they will reach out to you before the end of April. End of May is just confirmation that you got rejected, so I wouldn’t wait until then to make summer plans.

How much do data science skills (w/ computing languages such as R, Java) help one secure research positions? I applied for two environmentally related data analysis positions, and have studied some enviro (thru scioly, cu shp and the like) but have done a ton in compsci.

hey, i got accepted yesterday!

Congrats! Which labs did you apply for?

@BioMedstud What did you apply for?

@BioMedstud Did your guidance counselor tell you? bc mine called me yesterday, but I didn’t get the chance to answer and he’s never called me before so…

@AcademiaSavvy Did you put your GC down as your teacher contact? If so, then it might be because of that. That said, I would wait until you get an email yourself for confirmation.

@cc8912 No I didn’t, but it’s just odd that he called me since he never has before. I hope it was because of that!

nope, the assitant dean of research emailed me !

@BioMedstud which research will you be doing?

@BioMedstud Do you mind PMing me your stats? I’m planning on applying to this next year (summer after junior year).

@BioMedstud Also just wondering, when you were answering the responses were your answers more straight foward or?

@AcademiaSavvy I wouldn’t think too much about this. This is an incredibly selective program, and you should have other more likely options for the summer. There’s no point in overthinking about your application – you will find out the result soon enough, and if you don’t get in, it isn’t a big deal.

@cc8912 lol the whole purpose as to why I created this thread is so I could hear feedback about the applicant pool.
