Alrite, thanks to anyone who can help. First off, where is OA, what is it, is it worth it, who does the most difficult level of it, etc.

Second, wheres the best residential college to stay? do frosh have any choice? cuz my host said he asked for a double but got an apartment thing with 10 people. Oh and has anyone heard of "the zoo"?

What about frosh classes?

Finally, my mom wanted to come from out of state to help me settle in, being a caring mother, but i told her it was superfluous. Do any parents come to the dorms and stuff to settle their kids in?

I think selection is random, but they are supposed to consider your preferences...

Yes. I'm sure there will be many parents there. I think we'll have a reception for parents and lunches for family and friends too. Don't worry, your mom will not be out of place ;)

OA is a great experience, as a great way to begin college: make strong friendships and have a really fun week (you can choose the level of diff for the trip, so there's no risk of a tormenting survival camp :D). Here's the brochure, and here's the info site

About the second question, look here. I don't know if the proposal has been accepted. I sure hope so :D

Yes. Pavalon is our official OA Recruiter here on CC, so if you have any questions about why you should go on the trip - HE is the one to convince you and cast your worries away ;). See you in fall and welcome to '09!

wow! Thanks gianevve ;) ! recruiter... watches the staaars
that sound nice... but i'm too lazy to deserve the title :D

I just looked, and last year only 21 intls chose OA, and most of them from canada and puerto rico (i know, pr isn't intl)... from 600 participants!!... what are the odds that this year will be better?! the IpO evil organizers will keep on luring naive intl students, and OA will be lost... Forhever!! ah, the sadness of it all :-((

:D lol, joking. But OA is incredible! At least that's what i feel...

well, depends a lot on how those 15 miles look like. If it's 15 miles of vertical rock wall, it might not be that easy. Hopefully it will be chalenging.

haha haha haha!! that is so true! haha haha.. oh my god!

Come on such, choose the hearty, maybe immature, fun and exciting option over the practical, mature, responsible and utterly booooriiing one. You won't regret it! :D:D:D

I'm thinking we should get informed and organize a committee and spread word that we're gonna help all intls with bureaucracy stuff once back from OA, and thus IpO will totally lose its attractive charm... and perish in the depths of the north NJ forests...

...and then we should learn exactly how we will help everybody <-- but realistically, i think that can't be that hard. Such, what does your sister say about all this?

or does IpO present yet another, unknown to me, luring perfume? Or does OA frighten through something?

the truth is that i'm honestly trying to understand the matter, and find out what IpO offers! <--- i mean i'm not a blind advocate of OA (i hope:D:D)

has anyone been on some of the tougher OAs tho? Or any actual experiences that anyone could share? Would it be worth it, which session is best, etc.

Okay, so here's my first post and dilemma (and sorry to hijack the thread, but there's already 2 threads on OA and didn't want to start another one):

I really, REALLY want to do OA. However, I need to do my shopping for my dorm in NJ because I live overseas. Also, my mom wants to go sightseeing before school starts. I don't want to leave mom alone in New Jersey while I'm off at OA either. Will I have time for any of this between OA and Frosh Orientation? Is there any way to compromise?

We'll all have to stock up our rooms during Frosh Week, so that shouldn't be a concern. Perhaps your mom should come on the 10th when you get back (or a couple of days before if she wants to sightsee), since it would be pretty dead during that week between the time OA begins and the time Frosh Week kicks off. But yeah, we'll all be running around getting our rooms ready, accounts set up, etc. during Frosh Week, so don't sweat it :)
