Despite my going to Columbia this fall I'm still smitten over my rejection to Princeton. I know, pretty lame, right?

Can you guys tell me why Columbia is a better school than Princeton? What sort of things we have (at the school itself, not the city) that are better? Activities? Traditions?

It has a core curriculum.
Barack Obama is an alum.
No eating clubs: less elitist?
I know a young woman who turned down Princeton for Columbia. Enjoy!

Rejected by Harvard and Princeton. However, I have grown to realize that attending a school like Columbia is a great privilege that 99.9% of the world's ppl dont have. Be cool and see you this fall :)

Columbia wasn't my first choice. i was thoroughly unimpressed during my first few weeks, now there is no other place I can see myself at (maybe only 1 or 2 others). It grows on you, you fit over time no matter who you are. there's a wealth of resources. one thing we have over princeton is our ability to get top international speakers, this might stem from new york, but other college in new york don't see nearly the sorts of speakers who we do.

A good friend of mine visited from a college in canada this spring, he spent 3 days at princeton and 3 at columbia. I can tell you that he was relieved to be on our campus. He found it much more diverse, relaxed but not lazy, not arrogant, a little self-deprecating and most importantly balanced.

I look out onto one of our lawns in the spring. and I can't see a distinct trend. there's a pocket of readers, a pocket of sun bathers, frisbee players, lacross players, some guys kicking a football around, someone playing the guitar, a group practicing for a play, others just sitting and arguing, and a freshman couple or two who can't keep their hands of each other, the mix is wonderful. Not to demean princeton in anyway, but it's no columbia, and columbia too is no princeton.
