For the critical reading section, do you guys know how PR says not to read the passage? Well, I gave their technique a whirl on the march 10 SAT and, lo and behold, I got a mediocre 680 on the CR.

I've been taking practice sets from Kaplan 2400 and I've been getting them all right.

So, yeah...just wanted to share that...READ THE PASSAGES!

Ashraf Eassa: I did the same exact thing as you did and I did extremely bad on CR. It was by far my worst section, and being enrolled in the Kaplan courses I consistently did better, but then decided to listen to some perfect scoring seniors and PR technique to read the questions first and I did crappy! I felt good after the test about the CR section because most of the answers we talked about on CC were the ones that I got. Anyways, I ended up doing bad by going out of my normal routine of using Kaplan strategy. :( I'm retaking it anyway.

Wow, a bunch of you guys like PR huh??? uhhh, NOT ME!! All the PR gives you are obvious hints that only help you if your retarded as in like iq of lower than 10. Sure, the PR teaches you "things", but you call the joe blogg's theory information?? Now, if you are smarter than joe bloggs, which I know for sure most of you are(hopefully), you should know that what the PR is telling you to do is to think like george bush. It does not contain enough concepts, useful tips, information, to help you get a good score on the CR section or the SAT as a whole............I can go on......and on......and on.................

Just to clarify and sum it up: I HATE JOE BLOGGS
The only reason I sort of liek the PR is that they think the SAT sucks!
I hat ethe SAT more than Joe Bloggs. Now thats intense hatred!!

Owen, liking PR doesn't make one mentally retarded. Just because something seems common sense doesn't mean everyone has thought of it. I've used PR books for the PSAT, ACT, and SAT and it raised my scores substantially in all of them.

I did not use PR, but I went to this SAT prep class that told me the same thing. TOTAL BS. Who is their right mind does not read the passage? They told me it would be all right as long as I read the first and last sentence and skimmed the beginnings of each paragraph because supposedly reading the entire thing takes up too much time. Um, yeah. Whatever. Just manage your time and you will be perfectly fine. Do it their way, and you miss half the questions.

Serendipity, the same thing happened to me! I took a class at a local state college and they told me to do that retarded technique. I ended up getting a horrible score in CR. i personally think reading the whole passage is more effective

I have the PR book as well and it's sort of helpful but not completely. If you read the italicized blurb at the top and skim lightly through the text it's alright though...because the questions that refer to lines, etc. make you go back anyways.

I also got the Barron's book and have just started to use it, plus they have way more practice tests. I've been so busy lately and realized that it's a month and 2 days away. What. the. hayyyl. I'm so nervous you guys I've barely prepped, except hardcore math with my tutor. Eek.

Sibelius, I know, I was just exaggerating it a little too much. I'm just saying, abviously it is going to help you, but a lot of the information in the book is common sense. Joe Bloogs, Process of elimination......

i dont think you should listen to peoples' recommendations becauseeveryone learns differently which also means that their results will also be different.
get the book that you feel is better for you.
no one else knows how you learn but you (:
