Princeton SCEA Class of 2020 Applicant Thread

@azwu331 I like my Common App essay, and I think it’s pretty unique so hopefully the admissions officers will feel the same. I know there’s really nothing I can do now, besides the interview, so I’ll concentrate on that. And my other apps. Gah, I was never one for patience so this wait isn’t helping! :stuck_out_tongue: 16 days seems like an eternity!

@partaythyme Haha, I feel the same! I guess, in a way, everyone’s essays are unique. It all comes down to the first person reading them! That’s what makes the whole admissions process so subjective. I really hope that I’m still in the pile, and I hope that all of you guys are as well. How cool would it be if everyone on this thread got in? I know that’s statistically unlikely, but it’s still possible.

@azwu331 thank you so much for all of your help, information, and support on this thread! I truly hope you get into Princeton - you seem like a fantastic person. Who knows - maybe we will be classmates one day?!

As for anyone with upcoming interviews - don’t worry. At all. I over-prepped for my interview (although that isn’t necessarily a bad thing). My interviewer was awesome, and the whole atmosphere turned out to be very relaxed and informative. He denied my resume, and really just wanted to have a conversation. It made me fall in love with Princeton even more. Good luck with everything!!!

Also, the wait is killing me - and its only November 27! I have no idea how I am going to make it. Focusing on other applications is getting me through it all. How many schools are you all applying to?

My biggest fear is that my application will be trashed because I didn’t have subject tests. My counselor is clueless (since no one has ever gotten into an Ivy from my school) and I didn’t even realize that I should have taken them. All my other stats are pretty strong, I took the ACT (rather that SAT) and I was proud of my essays, but who knows. I really hope they still consider my application…

Maybe I should send a recording of me singing “All I Want for Christmas is You” to the adcoms and then they’ll accept me.

Awks delete of post much? xD

@partaythyme That’s pretty unique! I’m sure that the admissions officers would enjoy that (unless it turns out really bad and it sounds like four minutes of animal noises… trust me, that has happened before). :stuck_out_tongue:

I really hope that everyone gets accepted, but I guess one can dream. If not, I hope that a majority of us end up getting in.

I agree with you! It would be nice if we were all acquaintances the moment we stepped on campus. It would be great to get to know everyone in this amazing community!

Anyways, to everyone, good luck on your applications! I’ll be signing off now, but I’ll probably come back every once in a while until decision day. See you then!

@collegebound1915 I really hope that’s what my interview will be like. I get extremely overly-nervous during interviews and I don’t want to come off as an incompetent person to my interviewer.

@azwu331 16 days is equivalent to 16 years in my head. I wish I could be like Marty McFly and time travel. Where’s a DeLorean when you need one?

I sent in November subject tests. Do you think, upon receiving scores, that they pulled out my file again (assuming they already looked at it and put it away)? But then again I feel like many people could have sent in nov sat scores… Argh what’s done is done all parts are in now (unless I get that likely deferral and then send in more materials…) The wait is killing me!! @Aswu331 good job on getting other apps done, I’m just doing my state school which has 4 darn essays and a priority deadline of 30 nov and stubbornly not doing the other ones… :frowning:
When will P announce when they’ll release decisions? I read on here that it’ll likely be 14 dec - would it still be 3pm like last year? Upenn said 11 dec already and I thought the Ivies in general released together?

My son only had 1 shot at the tests and so that’s what every college is getting: ACT w/Writing (Sept,) three SAT II’s (October,) and the SAT (November.) He applied SCEA, so all Princeton had by the deadline was his ACTs and SAT II’s.

I’ll tell him to think of the wait till the decision notice as 16 days. Seems shorter than 3 weeks. I think I’m more impatient than he is though. LOL! He had his interview weeks ago, and is now swamped writing his (dual enrollment) college class final paper, putting finishing touches on his college apps, starting more college essays, and doing his ECs, while I’m stuck slogging through the CSS Profile. (Because when you’re poor, but not quite poor enough to qualify for fee waivers, you love the idea of paying to see if you qualify for more aid. :/)

Four essays for a state school? Ours required one and didn’t want a single letter or recommendation. Took 3 hours just to fill out their self reported grades & classes form though.

@kcarpenterfan i’m unsure of when princeton will announce their decision release date, but i’m p sure ivies only have to agree on a date for regular decision release (sometimes called ivy day). for early action/early decision, i think the universities can decide to release on whatever day.

I have an interview soon I’m starting to freak out ;___; though it’s supposed to be pretty casual lol

Does anyone know how heavily International Science Olympiad medals are weighted in the Princeton Admissions process?

My DS got the notification that an interviewer was assigned to him and then received an email 5 minutes later from the interviewer. She said the same thing that the report was due on the 4th. His interview is tomorrow. If the decisions come out on the 14th then that would give the committee only one week to go over all of the applications. That is really fast. I guess they should announce the date of the results soon.

Has it been confirmed already by Princeton that the results will be coming out Dec 14th??

No, that’s just our CC educated guess  waiting on P to confirm when!

I’ve looked everywhere online and couldn’t find the official decision date for early action. That’s a bit ridiculous that it is nearly December already and no one knows anything about when decisions are coming out except “mid december”. My guess is 12/15. Do we get notified by email?

I feel like I’m perpetually dying over and over again waiting for these results to come out. My life expectancy will probably be 25 years shorter once this deal is all done.

Decided to chime in since I’ve already had my interview, hopefully this will help you guys get an idea of how it works! It was pretty informal - it was at Panera, and the guy had very similar interests to me, both in academics and extracurriculars. He was wearing jeans and a Princeton sweatshirt. Before we started, he told me that he was given a sheet with my name and address and I think that was it - not even my major, so I get the feeling that none of the Princeton interviewers know any of your stats beforehand (contrary to @azwu331 's suspicion that prior knowledge of your stats indicates likelihood of acceptance).

He asked me to tell him about myself, so I mentioned my interests and what I’m involved in outside of classes. Of course there was the “why Princeton” question, and after that he asked me to expand on some of the extracurriculars I had mentioned earlier, and on why I chose my major. Then he asked if I had any questions, and he basically just tried to tell me as much as he could about his experience at Princeton. The whole thing lasted about an hour.

I’ve heard that interviews hardly carry any weight in the admissions process at Princeton - they’re mostly to make the alumni feel important and “connected.” I’ve also heard that in recent years, Princeton has tried to shift their interviews from being applicant-focused to informative sessions for us to learn more.

tl;dr - don’t stress too much about the interview, it’s very informal and doesn’t affect a whole lot!

Oh, I forgot to mention - he also said that he only gets a tiny space (he gestured with his fingers about an inch apart) to write about how the interview went. So unless you seriously fail, they’ll probably just write that it went well and that you’re a good candidate.
