So admission decisions are coming out on the 14th?
@Mel1997 I haven’t received any email confirming decision day. I assume it should be between Dec. 14 - Dec. 16.
Super exciting stuff on this thread the past few hours!!
@lomoso, are the essays are a big factor in the preliminary rounds, or are stats/awards/recs more important then? Also, is the committee’s final decision heavily influenced by only the essays, or do stats/awards/recs combined together have just as much weighting? I’m asking because I thought my essays were sub-par, but I have an advantage in the stats/awards/recs section.
Thanks in advance!!!
questbridge decisions have already come out!!
Oh thank goodness… I didn’t see the email at first and was wondering if I missed it, or if my parents had in fact sent in the forms required. Seeing everyone getting the email (except internationals where that doesn’t apply) was a bit nervewracking until I finally found it. I’d assume that it’s impossible that it means anything significant if such a high percentage of the people on this thread got it. I’d love if we could all join each other at Nassau but just statistically speaking, it’s unlikely that everyone in the thread will be accepted. I’d love to be wrong though!
This wait is going to be painful.
Hi everyone! I’m new to this thread (always just lurked on College Confidential). I’m a recruited softball player for Princeton and this wait still is making me crazy.
Anyways, any other recruited athletes here? I would love to talk to some of you guys! And good luck to everyone else, everyone has amazing credentials and I wish you all the best!!
Lots of activity on this thread today.
Someone mentioned that the mood of a reader or the time of day could have an impact, which is possibly true, but there are certainly checks and balances during the process. For example, many admissions committees do a school review to verify decisions are consistent and/or understandable within a certain high school (and also for awareness if all applicants from a certain school are being denied/wait listed, which can cause relationship issues with the school). For example, if the valedictorian is being wait listed, but #20 is being accepted, there needs to be an understanding and verification about why this is the case. Certainly the school will want to know and will ask.
I have gleaned this data from books I have read, and old CC posts. Who knows what really goes on behind closed doors. I would love to be a fly in the wall…
@ivyyhopes QuestBridge matches came out yesterday I believe, the @ApplyPrinceton twitter account mentioned it. Nobody’s posted in the results thread yet so we have no idea about anyone from this community, but at least one person got it that I saw on Twitter (Princeton responded to them and I saw from their feed, I don’t know them myself).
I saw on Yale’s web site they said they often get 15-25 initial QuestBridge matches, and end up accepting 75 or so after regular decision for those deferred. I’m not sure if the 15-25 number would be included in the SCEA number or if it’s a separate number. Also those numbers are just for a peer institution, though I’d assume Princeton’s numbers aren’t far off.
Sorry for the double-post, I thought of this later and my edit window expired.
@collegebound1915 Unless more people (number, not percentage-wise) whose counselors are contacted get in than those who do not, I don’t think it will change the chances. It follows that if your counselor is being contacted for more info, you’re probably not only in the committee stage, but right on the cusp of admission–while not a clear admit (without the extra information), very much competitive in the running. Meanwhile not getting contacted could mean you’re an obvious admit, obvious deny/waitlist/defer, or anywhere in between.
Edit: I should clarify: it seems like a good sign if you get it, but not a bad sign if you don’t.
I got that email as well!! Agh hoping it’s a good sign!!
Email here as well… Note - they asked for the 2014 documents (?) - were we supposed to already have sent those?
@fretfulmother I’m pretty sure they want last year’s documents since taxes for this year have not been finalized. They’ll take this data to make an estimate, then they may want the 2015 forms as well to finalize the offer down the road.
I feel like if the admissions decisions are mailed out in a little over a week, they have already made the decisions on who gets in. Based on past forums, if they take the time to go through thousands of apps to send you this email for financial aid, it seems like a good sign for admission.
Thanks for the info! But could it really be that all of us omitted to send something they asked for? Or did they ask? I feel like if they’d asked, we would have sent it (?)
do princeton early action results come on the 15th or 14th of december
@fretfulmother I don’t know… I filled it out over a month ago so I don’t recall everything that was asked for, but it does seem unlikely that this many of us left it out by accident.
@DonkeyKong466 It seems unlikely. Everything is in a database, they could easily send an email to everyone on the list. They want to have financial aid packages ready to be sent immediately with the decisions, since it’s a lot more appetizing when they show the actual cost to you instead of the sticker price. My friend hasn’t even had his interview yet, he’s having it tomorrow. I’m pretty sure the deadline for that is tomorrow as well. I know the interview isn’t a big influence in decisions, but if it holds any influence I’d assume they would have done it in time to count. Also my understanding is that they only began committee a few days ago and have since begun to whittle the class down even further. It’s still a week and a half away, and I’d presume that if they were ready they would release them.
The results date is not yet announced. The last couple years I think it was that monday, which would be the 14th this year. I haven’t seen anything official though, only speculation.
@fretfulmother They asked. I sent them when I turned in my FA application.
Thank you!
@DonkeyKong466 Princeton hasn’t confirmed the date yet, but we’re estimating that they’ll release decisions on Monday the 14th or Tuesday the 15th.
@tiger20 Thanks for the wishes! Have you been accepted by Princeton already, or will you be waiting for decisions with us?
