@azwu331 Haven’t been accepted yet, so I’m waiting with you guys! My coach did email me the other day though asking what my shoe size is, so I’m hoping that’s a good sign.
@azwu331 Been lurking on this thread for a while, but I wanted to say thank you for all the incredibly helpful information you’ve posted here! The questions you listed were incredibly helpful during my interview. Also love how upbeat you are! Really crossing my fingers for you. <33
Do we have any more info as to when the official release date is? Seems like Harvard, Stanford, and Yale all have set dates and times, just not Princeton.
@meaa7130 Hmm… There are more anomalous data points for EA (has anyone followed up to see if they were accepted after their deferment? That would be an interesting thing to look at next) but it still doesn’t quite add up, unless it’s a representation of who goes to committee. If there’s a correlation RD, there’s no reason to be getting SCEA applicants’ information now. If they don’t need them for the rejects RD, why would they need them for the deferred (and possibly/probably rejected) EA students? Why not just send that email during the regular decision period? Potentially however they’re marked as “probable” admits for the second round?
I’m going to ask my friend who also applied SCEA if he got it tomorrow at school, and I posted in the chance thread asking that people include in their report whether or not they received the email.
Another thing to note is the timing on it – while we’re still early in committee (presumably), they were reporting those emails in mid/late November last year. That seems far too early for them to be accepting students, it’s nearly a full month ahead of their release date. Since this being sent during committee maybe there is a closer relationship – the RD ones were close up to their deadline as well.
I recieved the PFAA email in late November, and submitted my tax record documentation along with my PFAA. I don’t believe that the only possible correlation is that you might have made it to committee, since they sent the PFAA email right before committee started and the tax record email soon after. I submitted my 1st quarter grades yesterday, I really hope they take them into consideration. I am also wondering how much ECs are taken into consideration, (I don’t want to reveal a lot of info, but I lead around 250,000 STEM students)? Would something like that weigh heavily?
Ugh, I didn’t get the email even though I know I’m missing forms. I felt like I was a pretty strong candidate, so hopefully not receiving the email doesn’t mean anything.
@lonelyowl , I cannot thank you enough for posting your “please send in your 2014 tax forms” letter and to everyone replying they got one too. Hub is horrible about checking his email and low & behold, he got it too!
Someone else mentioned their guidance counselor had gotten a request for more info, so he checked that too. (He’s considered our son’s because we independently homeschool.)
We so needed this bit of hope. Been stressing out trying to find more meet & safeties that have application dates after Princeton’s SCEA decision & that had enough time for his college professor to send on a LoR. We do not want to go through the panic ever again of getting email saying they (Princeton) didn’t have the required amount again a month after we though it’d been sent.
Good luck to everyone! Now go finish reading the rest of the new-to-me posts. Needed to get this Thank You off first.
P.S. You can’t hear it, but my son’s cheering as he’s finishing up his college term paper.
Maybe be it’s false hope, maybe not. It beats worrying & telling yourself not to have any hope.
put your hands in the air if you forgot you applied to princeton and are freaking out
I wrote my comman app essay about my loud voice and my culture princeton one about eating horses hahaha. you guys? :)>-
I got the same email, except I already sent in my forms November 1st. I guess they didn’t get them or something, I’ll be resending them soon.
As @agrimon said:
“I clearly remember that PFAA asked both W2 and tax return statements for 2015 instead of 2014 to complete filing, and the webpage still requires the 2015 ones according to the link: https://admission.princeton.edu/financialaid/apply-financial-aid. I don’t know why the email today is asking the 2014 ones.”
Same for us. As homeschoolers, we have more requirements & more paperwork to submit than traditional schoolers. We double check everything a dozen times & have regularly updated lists for every college our son’s applying too. All dates are on the wall calendar, our phones, and a Word doc. The day the PFAF was put online we filled it out, spending a long time to make sure it was complete & nothing extra was needed.
Regarding first marking period grades/first quarter grades, we sent our son’s in the day after the marking period ended. Unfortunately, the college our son takes a class at only issues grades & transcripts once the course has been completed. Those won’t be available until the end of Dec, long after the SCEA decisions are out.
With the email asking for 2014 tax documents, as some have already said, why ask for all that extra paperwork being faxed, mailed, or emailed if the applicants had already been put in the reject pile? They’re dealing with thousands of SCEA application files on top of RD ones being sent in. Not every piece of information will be sent electronically. (International students not-withstanding since I couldn’t even begin to speculate how that works as each country would be different in how they report.)
“Everyone on this thread,” to paraphrase, isn’t a lot of people. It’s a small sampling. I know of many families, from multiple educational styles, who have never heard of it. There’s likely a lot of lurkers who will remain silent too. Of course this could be taken as a good or bad sign.
Others have done research into past threads & there seems to be a positive correlation.
I’m choosing to remain optimistic & hope that in two weeks we’ll be able to buy Princeton shirts & celebrate.
Even if my son, & others, don’t get in, you all made it this far & that’s something to be proud of.
It does say on the Princeton financial aid applicant page that if you are an early applicant (or regular decision whose parents haven’t yet filed for 2015). you need to send in the 2014 tax documents. See #2 on the link @agrimon posted
@meaa7130 I had my GC send my first quarter grades when they came out. If you were happy with your grades, I would definitely send them! It can only help right?
Been lurking on this thread for quite sometime. This suspense is excruciating. :-S
@azwu331 Thanks for your kind explanations on the review process. That makes sense at some degree if it is a general selection process in outside world. But the admission process may need to put more efforts to reduce human error by involving at least a responsible permanent employee from the preliminary round. Just my thought.
@FarscapeFan I didn’t know that you had to prepare much more documents than us. Best luck to your son.
@GoodGrief16 Thanks for pointing out the 2014 tax documents that I was missing for some reason. However, the paragraph #2 at PFAA states to include “a six digit Application Number”. Is that CAID at Common App which is eight digits? Please do not reply on this if you are at school.
@AcrobatX Yeah, I knew that a lot of people write that kind of essay (aka “I cuddled African orphans and it changed my life, etc.”), so to make it clear that it wasn’t just a one-time, one-week trip to Third World Country X, I tried to connect my lessons from the misguided projects I’ve started (and the changes I subsequently made to my approach) to Voltaire’s philosophy in Candide. That was the “out there” part… hopefully I get points for effort!
@lomoso Did they comment on your scores or GPA or class rank at all? Also if other kids from your school were applying did they compare you against them?
Would it be too late to send in an additional LOR? I just got one from my community service leader and I think it’s really good, but I didn’t know how additional LORs worked since there’s no space on the CApp for it. Or is it too late?
for the financial aid request
back in late october sent in request got 1 email confirming receipt from PFA office and a second email with student ID info and
these instructions
"Tax documents or other supporting forms should be sent directly to the Financial Aid Office using the fax, email or mail address below.
If you wish to change any part of your application you must contact the Financial Aid Office directly:
Undergraduate Financial Aid Office
PO Box 591
Princeton University
Princeton, New Jersey 08542-0591
USA"
immediately faxxed in several tax docs including W2 2014 etc… Is this what the “new” email is asking about? cause if people faxed/emailed in 2014 W2s before why would they ask again?
when people first register for financial aid you get 2 emails from PFAA (not UA) - 1 telling you to login and create
account. You then get another PFAA email assigning you a 6 digit ID in that email (nothing to do with common app).
The second PFAA email also says to fax in W2s other documentation etc… so if people did not follow through (and kids don’t have access to parents W2s to scan email/FAX) people could not have completed the FA process a month ago.
so in terms of new emails the only question is whether the PFAA is told we need information for all students or just ones going to committee. But unless these new emails are asking for more than 2014 W2s and other tax documents these all could have been submitted before.
@agrimon, as others have stated, your student should have received an e mail with a 6 digit application number and request for supporting documents immediately after submitting the PFAA.
