Princeton SCEA Class of 2020 Applicant Thread

Did anyone’s application portal change today? Mine was previously all clear, but now says “Princeton has received some but not all of the required pieces of your application. Items not yet received are listed on this page. Please do your best to make sure we receive the missing item(s) as soon as possible.” and then there is NOTHING listed under “items not revived” and everything listed under “items received” looks complete. I also sent supplemental official SAT II test scores and first quarter report card. I emailed admissions but was wondering if anyone else saw something like this today.

@JasonMath Mine just says what it always did: “The Princeton Admission Office has received all the required pieces of your application. Your application is complete.”

@JasonMath Mine didn’t change. It still says what it used to say… perhaps it was a glitch or something?

@meaa7130 ugh! Thanks! It said it was complete for weeks. I can’t imagine what else they want me to send (or re-send.) I will try to call tomorrow.

Based on this information that Princeton will release its decisions on the 15th or 16th, I’m going to assume that the highest probability right now is for a release on the 16th. Princeton usually gives a notice a week in advance, and since there is no information from Princeton as of yet, the 16th (one week from tomorrow) is the most likely (although the 15th and even the 17th and 18th are all likely as well).

I guess we’ll be late this year! Perhaps this is because the applicant pool this year is a lot stronger so they need extra time to cut out the last few applicants remaining in the pool. I don’t know if this is good or bad news. It’s Princeton’s first time dealing with over 4,000 SCEA applications, so I would cut them some slack.

@rodrigoborgia The AB and BSE acceptance rates are the same! You don’t have to call them since the intended major has almost little or no impact on the decision. Whether or not you get accepted will not be determined by what major you put down.

Some days I wonder if waiting for the release date to be released will take as long as waiting for the actual result…

Watch as Princeton suddenly uploads all of our decisions onto our portal tomorrow without any notice. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m pretty sure that all the decisions have been made already, and the committee is just finishing up the sorting and database updating. It’s quite scary to think that the decision is already there on the site, just hidden from our view under the innocent words: “The Princeton Admission Office has received all the required pieces of your application. Your application is complete.”

They should just change it to: “The Princeton Admission Office has already discussed and voted on your worth as a student. Your fate for the next four years is now set. Your application may or may not be in the trash, but we won’t tell you for another week. During this time, please attach yourself to the school even more so that your deferral will be even more traumatizing. We have secretly programmed this site to film your reaction so that we can proudly display it on our home page next week. Sorry guys, but this is the compromise we have to make in order to compete with Harvard for the #1 spot on the US News Rankings… we need that low acceptance rate so that we can continue this cycle.” :-q

But yeah, all kidding aside, Princeton must have had a difficult year deciding who to finally accept in the SCEA round. I don’t think they have ever gone later than the Tuesday the week of the 15th, and the fact that they are actually breaking tradition this year probably says a lot about the pool. More waiting is obviously a lot of fun, but at least we’ll have a bit more time together on this thread.

@JasonMath mine says the same thing, but I’m sure all my stuff is in. It’s probably a glitch, likeazwu331 said. I wouldn’t call unless you’re really stressing, besides they wouldv’e given you some warning other than saying it the 8th of December lol! Dont worry!

I bet when I get my deferral/rejection letter it’ll just say “lmao you thought”

@arcane25 Thanks! I was worried that I am just not reading it correctly or missing something. The late notification definitely caused some panic.

@jasonmath @arcane25 ya same, mine also says not all items have been received but then under the list of items not received there is nothing and everything is under the list of items received. lol probably just a glitch!

In case this ever ends up being relevant for data tracking - my DS’s still says “complete” on the portal.

This afternoon, my son’s said it was complete too.

Their reply to my email:

Thank you for your email. Decisions will be made available sometime during the week of December 14th. Applicants will be notified with the exact date as soon as the date is determined.

Thank you for your patience, and best wishes.

Sincerely,
Estela

I almost don’t want to be notified about the decision date- I’d rather randomly log into the App Tracker (I know we all compulsively check it!) and just see it. I don’t want to have a certain date in my head (T-6 days… T-5 days… T-2 hours…) and get all stressed out about it.

Hey Guys I have a question. I wrote about a trip I took to El Salvador in my essay and I have now fundraised 5k and will be going back all summer next year. Should I update the admissions committee or is it too late/ unnecessary?

@Mel1997 too late for early action

I emailed them about a recent accomplishment Saturday and they said that they’d put it in my file… it can’t hurt!

For any of you local or semi-local folks who were planning on getting a t-shirt to celebrate if you got accepted next week: I made the long drive today to check out the Walmart and Target on Rt 1, which is a major highway with a huge source of retail shopping for the entire area and is just a short drive from Princeton. Unfortunately, neither carries Princeton merchandise. Thought they might, since every Target, Walmart, grocery store, and pharmacy within a billion mile radius of Rutgers carries at least T-shirts and hats. No fear though. There are two Princeton University Stores near campus. Not sure if we can post links, so just type in pustore . com (minus the spaces).
