Princeton SCEA Class of 2020 Applicant Thread

@MikeJohuoski speaking of dreams, I once had a dream I got into Princeton, and I woke up crying. I understand the numbness though; everything feels kind of surreal with all of you guys so encouraging, even though we’re competing against eachother. I find it so beautiful that we’re not hacking at each other’s throats.

@drummage Like I don’t think I’ve ever experienced something like this in my life but I’m glad to know other people are going through it too :~))) Oh college admissions, your uncertainty never fails to cause kids anxiety.

@Mrmerchant and same for you !!! :~))

Hi. I am new here but looks like it is really cozy place to join. I have a question. Do you think 4 years of arts or music (class at school) was bad choice, since the weighted gpa goes down (our school has 4.0 for these classes… no honor)? This always bothers me.

@Mrmerchant Yes I did!! I posted a link to my supplement for ballet earlier on this thread haha. What supplement did you submit?

@dolph1n That’s so sweet!! I haven’t been to the campus in years. The summer of sophomore year I went to a summer intensive at the Princeton Ballet School, so I got to live on campus and eat on campus for about five weeks. There were some engineering camps going on as well so I got to meet some very interesting people… and attractive guys too lol. I first thought of Princeton as an opportunity for me to be a princess and live in a castle. Now its much more than that, though becoming a princess is a nice side thing.

@52balletvieta I’m a violinist, so I decided I wanted to serenade them a little…

Hopefully they’ll get actual professors/teachers to come and look at the supplements rather than the AdCom doing it themselves hehe :^)

@2015mmozzi I don’t think it will harm you in any way. Colleges usually look at your unweighted GPA so unless it brings down your unweighted I wouldn’t say it’d hurt you. Also, it shows you have a passion for the arts, in my opinion at least.

@Mrmerchant ooh violin! I used to play cello but ballet took up too much time haha.

Yes It’d be so nice if admissions allowed teacher input. Unless the adcoms are well versed in the art someone submits, I’m very nervous that it might not help that much.

@dolph1n Yeah I guess it’s something good to have at this time. It’s just not what I imagined this week to be like. I thought I’d would be excited, anxious, and even a little confident, but nope – I was completely wrong haha

@52balletvieta SAME! It’s so scary how much this uncertainty toys with our minds!! I’m always contemplating if these dreams actually mean something lol (go ahead, call me crazy haha). But for now, I’ll let those dreams continue to occur because they will never have the chance of becoming a reality after Wednesday.

@APrincetonian my go to has been Kanye’s Late Registration. I don’t know why, especially since he despises college, but it keeps me sane.

@2015mmozzi as I understand it Princeton recalculates GPA with some classes removed, and that may remove arts and PE and things like that.

Princeton please accept me,
I’m the best applicant you’ve ever heard.
I’ll be an amazing student,
You have my word.
I have great ECs,
So I promise I’m not a nerd.
I’ll help you guys win things,
Like you’re the Celtics and I’m Larry Bird
Princeton please accept me,
don’t get me deferred

I found this somewhere hehehe

That is really good to hear. But pton dean said that they spend the most of time to analyse transcript and also how much challeges in our curriculum. Music or arts are not very challege classes (e.g. compared to ap phyaics). So 4 years of school music made me worried.

@2015mmozzi Oooh where does it say that? I’d like to read it lol. Kinda makes me nervous.

Can we all virtually hold hands or something cause I feel like we’re all basically one big fam now

@2015mmozzi Omg please don’t fret about this (yes, I used “omg.” Do I regret it? Maybe a little). You should be pretty dang proud of yourself for taking your own direction in high school. You followed your passions instead of taking what looks most “rigorous” or “competitive” on transcripts. You took classes that interested you instead of wasting 4 years of your life on demanding courses you’re not even interested in! It doesn’t take a genius to see your willingness to take your own direction in high school so I’m sure an admissions director at Princeton will be able to see it too!!! :~) be proud of your accomplishments! You’ve already made it this far!

Also, anyone know how much they look at english grades for an engineering applicant? It’s above 90(one of the top marks lol), but not on par with my other grades, which makes me pretty sad: my english teachers are SAVAGE and have a “it’s all about LEARNING” attitude.

Music is not challenge: is my thinking.
Pton dean said they spend the most time for transcript. She said they even have different officers (who are specifically familiar to each area or school) to analyze our transcript which can be very diffedrent from each hs. When I heard this during pron visit, I already decided to do 4th year of music so nothing changed. However, always bothers me. This choice also gave meless number of ap, too anyway.

@Mrmerchant Same!! My English grades average to an A- (somewhere between 90-92 in my school). I think for engineering they’ll weight it a little bit less than other subjects, but they will ultimately use our essays to judge our writing abilities. When an admission officer came to my school, she said they were looking for engineers who could also write because we, as engineers, will be required to write eloquently and extensively along with our tough math and science courses.

@Mrmerchant …wow thank you so much for your comment. It makes me so warm!

@MikeJuhuoski wow I’m so lucky. My school only reports the letter grade, not even - or +

@MikeJuhuoski It’s a bit sad cause english is literally the only thing dragging my percentage down(I’m from Canada) , and it’s not even that I’m garbage at English - my sat scores say otherwise. It’s just that my teachers say “Wow, a 93 is a really good mark!” (I don’t mean to sound cocky, but come on, this is Princeton we’re talking about LOL)
