@Stahboy Yup, I’m scheduled to interview next week.
I think my P’ton interview was one of the best. The conversation flowed naturally
It was at a really fancy office, and the guy was really down-to-earth too.
I had my interview this past week. I think it went pretty well, but he definitely did more talking and reminiscing than I think I did. He’s a professor in the field I’m interested in, so it was exciting to have his input and advice. His Princeton perspective was great. He went to the school as an international and was really involved with bolstering international student rights and garnering new opportunities for them. I feel like I asked him more questions than he did me, but the conversation was natural and relaxed.
This purgatory before decisions is getting me anxious! To be honest, I’m tired of waiting!
That sounds about how my son’s interview went 3+ years ago. Love the “purgatory before decisions” metaphor. Yes, that’s exactly how it feels. Try not to think about it too much - you’ve done all you can and you will end up at one great school or another, with a world of opportunities ahead. All the best.
do interviews (good interviews) carry much weight? iwk that if the interviewer finds ur story or experience to be interesting, his or her comments would be a boost of chance for admission.
@mahoushojo Interviews MAY help tip someone on the border. In the vast vast majority of cases of the cases, applicants aren’t on the border – they’re clearly in the good (short) pile or the bad (tall) pile. A fantastic interview will not move someone from the tall pile into the short pile.
Dd sent in a visual arts supplement and just had her alumna interview yesterday. She felt it went fairly well but it’s difficult to gauge. The waiting is driving us all a bit nuts (love the “purgatory before decisions” quote) but it’s not like we have much choice in the matter. We’re just trying to trust she’s done what she can and things will eventually fall into place. Just think, in about 6 weeks decisions will have been made and we can move forward. Can’t wait! Good luck to everyone!
Did anyone miss the FA application deadline and got an email from the FA office??
Mine said,
"You indicated you intend to apply for financial aid but have not yet submitted the Princeton Financial Aid Application (PFAA). This form is available on the Web at https://finaidapp.princeton.edu/app/loginFreshman.jsp.
If you do not intend to apply for financial aid, please email our office at pfaa@princeton.edu so we may update our records. If you previously informed our office you are no longer applying for aid, please disregard this email."
After I got this email, I submitted all the required documents but do you think the fact that I missed the FA deadline affect my chances?
@jasonkos, if the email was not an automatically-generated one, it would be a positive sigh. do you mind post some of your biggest strengths, that might shed more light on the indication
sign
@clacorn I don’t think its an auto-generated one, but I do know someone who got the exact same email.
Oh and my stats are:
-SAT: 2380
-SAT II: three 800’s
-GPA: 3.8 (excluding 12th grade 1st semester)
-Essays were generic but good.
- LoR were decent I guess. Didn’t really have a chance to read them.
- ECs were pretty unique.
And btw, this year’s 1st semester was just horrible cuz I slacked off so much
other than your GPA , i would say your stats are very strong, i have a feeling you have a very good chance
Thanks! But since there are so many better applicants, I’m trying not get my hopes up…
We missed the Princeton financial aid deadline as well and submitted it 9ish days late. She didn’t get a reminder email about the financial aid application but right after submitting her FA app, she did get an email re an alumna interview. Not sure what kind of chance she has but the interviewer was encouraging (but again, who knows?!). Her stats:
2230 SAT
SAT tests math 2 790 and physics 800
GPA - 4.3 weighted/4.0 unweighted
class rank: 1 of 353
6 AP exams with all of them 5s except one 3 in Eng Lang & comp (long story)
This year she’'ll have 30ish college credits plus another 15ish from previous years
National merit finalist (but that isn’t anything special for an Ivy)
LoR - I think strong but I haven’t read them. I know one was trying very hard to NOT be over the moon and keep it toned down so at least one was strong
EC - average/strong except for attending MIT’s WTP this summer for 4 weeks (which only 20 international females attended so that is strong).
We live in Iowa so that could help in terms of geographic diversity - possibly?
I think she has as much of a chance as anyone but with single digit acceptances, she’s trying not to get her hopes up. Princeton would be a great fit for doing both engineering and art. Her brother has been accepted there for grad school so that would be super cool to have both of them at the same school. So we wait and trust that it will all work out. … cue Jeopardy music. Good luck to everyone!
@collegeboundinia i think the reason u didn’t receive the reminder email is that u actually submitted ur fa application before the emails were sent out. (I received it on feb 12) and btw, ur daughter’s stats look amazing! Best of luck!
Just to jump into the conversation, I am an international student. I had my interview and it was amazing! My interviewer was very very sweet and apparently, we graduated from same high school! So we had a lot to talk about. Anyway, I’m not that hopeful though. With a 31 on my ACT and no IB, I guess it really is a long shot.
Does Princeton do likely letters?
While Princeton says they offer interviews to every applicant that they can, what does it mean if I haven’t gotten one yet? And it’s not like there are no available interviewers in my area, as I live in a pretty well-known area and I am aware of quite a few others who have been contacted for interviews.
It just means that they weren’t able to offer you an interview because there were more applicants than available alumni. As an international student, I got an interview but my friend didn’t even though we live in the same area. Don’t worry, it doesn’t mean that you’re at a disadvantage or anything
Yes, but the vast majority of accepted applicants will not receive one.
