Hey, I'm a senior applying ED with the Common App so I'm hoping to get some quick responses on this issue I'm having. I was very careful to be brief and to-the-point when filling out my Common App (ECs, honors/awards, senior classes, etc.) because there is only so much space when you're typing out the info in the boxes. However, when I look at the print preview, my sentences get chopped off. Apparently, the print preview limits your words even more.

I'm wondering which version colleges look at - the version that I'm using to type in with boxes, or the print preview version? I'm guessing the latter, but I don't want to shorten everything unless I need to. Thank you!

You need to shorten it so that all your words fit into the print preview version because that is what schools will see. The character limits are estimates since each character (think i and w) has a different physical width

Make sure you check other areas of your app on the print preview too - we just found some other places that cut off, e.g., parents Job Title, etc. The apps look very very different printed out - good way to double check when you think you are done!

I was wondering the same thing. A few of my extracurriculars run off the page when I preview my application as a pdf. I tried making them as short as can be but I guess I will have to make them even shorter now if the case being they read the printed or pdf view.

What I did was I printed out the entire application and physically checked things off, line by line, to make sure there were no errors and that everything fit
