Private HS and Financial Aid

I live in a town with a very poor school system. Last year, the school was in such bad shape that it is in risk of losing accreditation. An override for more funds did not pass.

Because of this, I attended a private Catholic school. It costs $6700 a year. Next year I will be entering college, and both of my brothers will be enrolled in the private school. I recieved 2000 a year in financial aid and scholarship at the school, and they will also.

We are a middle-class family, and I will need financial aid. How much will this situation be factored in? I live in MA, so we have week state schools, and I fear that I will have to resort to one, even though I already recieved acceptance into my first choice, Bard College.

Anyone?

I think that the college take into account that siblings are attending private high school.

Like you, we lived in a community with impossible public schools, so sent the youngest sib to a private parochial school for elementary during the years our eldest applied to and attended college.
FAFSA has a special place to write in special circumstances, which is where we put the younger sib's tuition expenses and why.

In addition to FAFSA, the colleges themselves also can be petitioned for special circumstances because sometimes they review and do better than FAFSA. "Special circumstances" can include private school tuitiions for sibs, extraordinary medical out-of-pocket medical expenses for other family members, money spent for aging parents, significant drops/changes in family income for any reason, among others. Check with a financial advisor.

i was not clear in my above post: FAFSA and the college DID factor in the younger sib's private school tuition.
They also factor in the college tuitions of other sibs, so our two eldest had fun criss-crossing all their info for each other. Veryimportant to do the paperwork for each other, even when busy on campus!

My mom will also be in college at a state school and applying for FA.

If my normal EFC is about 20K, what should it be expected to drop to? 12-17K?

While a dependents college costs will be factored into a parents EFC, a * parents* college costs will not be factored into dependents EFC
So if mom is the only other college student in family, your EFC will remain the same.

HOwever, PROFILE, will take into account private school tuition ( milage may vary)
