I am going to be a falcon this year at NWP and have some extra time in the summer. Is there any oppotunities to take advantage of by getting a private pilot license before I go to the academy? I heard there is a flying team or something other than the soaring program.

Also, when your on active duty can you purchase firearms. I assume you cant keep them on base but can you purchase them and leave them at home?

Thanks

You are allowed to purchase and own firearms an active duty.

If you want to keep them on base, which is allowed, they must be kept at the armory and declared at the gate. I wouldn't suggest bringing them on base since you really can't do anything with them.

mogul-- there's a flying team, but it's extremely competitive for freshman. i think only 6 are picked out of the incoming class. and it's very time consuming, too, because of the demands of the team.. we learned all this at orientation

hey thanks for the info
I haven't been to an orientation. I will be part of the 2013 class.

how many are on the team total?

You can only join the Flying team as a freshman, and then you do it for all four years, so there's around 24 people or so on the team, I guess.

To clarify, while on active duty, firearms laws apply as normal, unless you are actively engaged in your duties (security forces, OSI, deployed, etc).

If you are interested, I recommend the rifle team (NCAA sport) or the small arms club.

raimius, are you in the small arms club? I've heard some stuff about it, I'm just not sure I want to join it.

Yes, I am, or more specifically, I'm on the competition team within the club.

How many people typically tryout freshman year for the flying team? And as far as the flying or rifle team or the other clubs, do those activities take place of intramural sports or do you still have to do those activities as well.

Could someone layout a traditional 4 degrees schedule.

Thanks
